How soon after CS will/would your RE help you conceive again?

I had my baby via CS 6 months ago.  We are ready to try for #2, but I know that I will need medical intervention since I have luteal phase defect.  I'm trying to gage if my RE will laugh in my face and turn me away for trying again so soon.  Any experience with this?  Thanks

  • I know that my RE told me 6-8 months post delivery, but I had a vag. I would not think more than a year if you have a CS. It can not hurt to call and ask! They will NOT laugh in your face!

  • I've been in your shoes.  My doctor was VERY clear.  If I wanted to do a VBAC he wanted to wait at least a year to 18 months before attempting to have me pregnant again.  Now if I was willing to do a repeat C, no questions asked he was all for restarting meds at the 9 mos point.

In fact my RE encouraged me not to wait b/c he thinks my situation is degenerative and the longer I waited the more intense we would have to go.  I think he was right.  It took more this time around.

  • Well, he shouldn't laugh in your face.  If he does I would find another RE.

I had DS wth help from my OB.  He told me that he wanted me to wait a year.  That was because of my age though.  I was 28 and he said that besides needing time to heal properly from the surgery and to get my post partum hormones under control ( HA!! ) there was no need to rush it because I was under 30.  I trust him though and we did wait a year.

I don't know what an RE would say.  I would guess that my RE would say the same thing.  I have no idea how old you are but if you are over say, 30 or 35 then definitely ask.  Hell, it cal't hurt to ask either way.

    Good luck!

  • Well, I'll be 28 this fall.  I know it sound young, but my luteal phase is actual shortening since I had my DS.  It's now down to 6 days!  It was 8 and took intervention last time.  I fear that it could be more difficult to conceive this time around.  My OB never did give me a time frame to wait until TTC again.  I just hate to make the appointment with the RE just to pay for her to say no.  I just wondered if anyone had been in a similar situation.  I do appreciate your feedback!
  • I was back at my RE when DS was 4 months old. I had a vag. delivery though. He thought I was a little nuts wanting to start again so early, but had no issues with getting things going as long as all my tests came back ok. I would say make the appointment. Even if your RE doesnt want to start treatment right away you can still set up a plan and get things going right away when you are able to try again. Good luck!
  • The optimal interval between pregnancies is at least one year between delivery and start of next pregnancy.  This is especially important for women who have had a c-section.  The layer in the uterus responsible for the placenta attaching correctly needs to heal properly.  If this layer is not there or not healed properly, there is increased risk of abnormal placental implantation and increased risk of needing a cesarean hysterectomy during the next pregnancy.  It's scary stuff.  So unless someone is 39 and knows this next pregnancy will be there last, I would say one year minimum.  Good luck!
  • My RE said 3 months follow vaginal and 6-8 months following a c/s. ?Good luck
  • I was told 6 months

I went back to my RE when my daughter was 7 months old
