I think I may have mastitis and wanted to hear from the ladies who have it or have had it before I call my OB. What does it feel like and did it affect your milk production? I have horrible sharp pains in my boobs and it hurts for the first 2-3 minutes when she latches on. Also, the last 2 days, my milk is barely coming in...this has never been a problem before. I just wanted to know what your experience was like. From what I've read on the internet, nursing usually helps treat it, but doctor's will often give you medicine for it. I don't have the chills or flu like symptoms, so maybe it's something else. Any feedback would be appreciated. TIA!
Re: If you've have/had mastitis, please come in!
When my mastitis started it was just a sharp pain but it didn't hurt when DS latched on it was just an all around pain on the underside of my breast. That started and that night was when I got the chills/fever. I went to sleep that night and it was still sore so I tried some of the home remedies like warm shower before nursing, using a heating pad, and trying to massage while DS nursed. It got to the point where there was what looked like a pie shape where the pain was where it was red and it was even warm to the touch. I went to the dr and she clarified it was mastitis and since it is an infection I got an antibiotic. After the 3rd day it was much better but was on an antibiotic for 10 days! Good luck figuring out what it is.
It sounds more to me like you might have thrush. Check your LO's mouth - see any weird thick whiteness or white patches on tongue or inside of cheeks? There is lots of info about thrush here:

"When it comes to sleeping, whatever your baby does is normal. If one thing has damaged parents enjoyment of their babies, it's rigid expectations about how and when the baby should sleep." ~ James McKenna, Ph.D., Mother Baby Behavioral Sleep Center, University of Notre Dame
Mastitis felt lumpy (started with a plugged duct) and then started with a fever.
Could be thrush (although when I had thrush, it hurt in between feedings too). Could be a latching issue.
I would call a Lactation Consultant, or a La Leche League leader, idealy both.
