Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Well, we can never go back to Petco.

Or Fridays. Or Michaels.

We went to do some shopping yesterday. Two hour drive. While we are at lunch, Joseph throws up. A lot. But then he's immediately okay, and it was mostly milk, so I think maybe the milk was bad, but it's all gone so it's not like I can check it. And then he poops, and I check my bag for diapers and clothes. Left them at my mom's when she was babysitting. Damn.

So on to Walmart to buy diapers and new clothes. Very cute monkey outfit. I explain to 32 Walmart employees that I'm not trying to steal the clothes and diapers I'm taking into the restroom. No one cares.

On to Michaels. We are in the checkout when we smell something. Matt goes to get me another diaper, I take Joseph to the bathroom while Matt runs next door to Petco. I open the cute new monkey suit. The cute new monkey suit is filled with what looks like green cottage cheese. Joseph thinks this is hilarious. I clean him up and apply diaper, then take mostly naked pseudo white trash baby to Petco to explain to Matthew that a new bottom feeder can wait until after we go to Target to buy yet another new outfit. Disapproving pet owners look at my mostly naked baby and shake their heads. Unpleasant woman talks loudly to her friend four feet away from us about how awful it is that people will take a baby out like that when there's CLEARLY a chill in the air. I pull his cottage cheese clothes out of my bag and say "I didn't think it would be a good idea to put these back on him when I changed him next door!"

As we are leaving, Joseph gets excited about the bunnies and starts to do the boneless slither thing to get down and look at them. I bargain to hold him up to look at them.

And then he throws up all over the pretty white Easter bunnies.

Does anyone have some Valium they can lend me?

  • Wow, what a time you had! Doesn't it work like that, the 1 day you forget diapers and clothes you really REALLY need them. I know it wasn't funny at the time but you'll definitely look back and LOL at this. I was LOLing just reading your post.

Also glad your DS is ok through all that.

  • Wow, ok, that made my bad day seem not so bad.  Hope Joseph is feeling better!
  • Awww, I can imagine.  DD still throws up ALL.THE.TIME.  On a side note, I see you are from Central PA, where you in Chamberburg because I know there is a Target, Fridays, Pet store, and Michaels all in the same shopping strip.

  • That story is definitely a keeper.  Did he really throw up all over the bunnies??  I love how you took out the poopy clothes to show the woman.
  • Puking on the bunnies before Easter?  I won't laugh, I won't laugh, hahahahaha!!!  Too funny!!   I mean awful, awful.

Trust me, I feel your pain and I know how embarrassing it is.  Last Thanksgiving, my ds puked repeatedly as we were landing in a plane and everyone had to sit in their seats and smell that awful smell for 10 minutes as we taxied to the gate.  Curdled milk is a terrible smell!   DS puked as we got our luggage, on the way to the car and numerous times in the car.  I know how frustrating it is to repeatedly change ds and then have him puke all over the new outfit 2 minutes later too!

Trust me though- you will laugh about what happened (eventually) and it is a great story for his baby book!

3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again

  • OMGosh, sorry I had to laugh. I hope that never happens again!
  • Tee-hee!

But seriously, I hope the little guy is feeling better and mommy and daddy recover from the ordeal soon.

  • wow. very crazy... what happened after he threw up on the pretty white easter bunnies? did petco employees kick you out? or did you try to leave before they found out? :) lol!!!

i hope he is feeling better now.

  • I haven't had a chance to read the other replies, but that is exactly why I try to never judge when I see a baby out in public wearing just a diaper or in some other half-dressed state. You just never know what really happened...

     Hope he's feeling better now.

  • Good Lord.  And I thought I was having a bad day.

I hope his tummy calms down soon...and I think mommy should have a glass of wine (or six) after your little Puke Monster goes to bed tonight!   ;)

  • OMG! Now that it is all over, how funny!

  • I took all my valium after the huge fight with my DH but this story made me laugh.

What a nightmare!  I hope he feels better.  I just don't understand what men have against shopping.  Even little men.

  • Sorry I haven't answered any questions. I've been...busy.

No, we didn't get kicked out by the very understanding Petco employees. The girls in the grooming salon said they didn't have anything to do anyway since no one was bringing any dogs in that day. And they had a new kid starting who the manager said could learn to clean the cages with this one. You know, in between laughing off his a$$. The disapproving woman who was talking to her friend said babies get sick when they aren't dressed properly, at which point I asked where she got her medical degree, and asked if she'd like to hold my naked puking baby while I helped the Petco people clean. She declined. Actually, the Petco people declined as well. For some reason, they were eager to see us leave. Go figure.

He is fine right now. He hasn't had anything but Pedialyte and crackers, so I'm eager to see how real food goes. Probably try at lunch.

  • lol that is hysterical. DS and I had a similar day a few days ago.
