cleaning Medela tubing?

I'm sure this question has been asked before but what is the best way to clean the tubes on the Medela PISA? How often do you clean them?

I've been trying to clean them but there always seems to be a bit of water trapped in the tubing and I was told having water in there is bad because it can lead to mold....

Thanks!

Re: cleaning Medela tubing?

  • you can use the medela steam clean bags-- also- when done pumping, let the pump stay on but unhook the tube from the breast shield end (keep it hooked up 2 the pump end) and let it run for a few extr minutes- this helps dry up any condensation in the tubes!

  • Like the pp said...just run your pump a while after you're done and the airflow will dry it out.

  • In addition to the other suggestions, I also boil my tubes once a week and leave them out to dry overnight.  The really hot water temp seems to clean them, and the water seems to evaporate in the tubes that way.
  • You can also pour 91% rubbing alcohol into the tubes (not while connected to pump, of course) and then let them dry.
  • Also - a warning about steam cleaning in the Medela bags - make sure you have a second set of tubes before trying it - the bag melted my tubes!
