DS inconsolable...help! (XP)

DS has always been a decent sleeper. Last week he was diagnosed with an ear infection and we just finished the medication. The last 4 days he has been waking up at 4:30am on the dot, screaming and inconsolable. Its taking at least an hour to get him back to sleep. Screams when I hold him, when I put him down, when I rock him, when I try to sit or change positions. Tonight we turned a new corner. About a half hour after putting him down, he woke up screaming. That was over an hour ago and when just can't get him down. He is teething of course (no fever) but has been for months, we've never had it this bad. He's been very clingy during the days, I'm thinking maybe separation anxiety??I'm taking him tomorrow to have his ears checked again, just in case.I'm exhausted, I haven't really slept in days. Does anyone have any advice for me? I'm thinking maybe something more is going on but I'm having trouble really thinking over the screaming. Dh is in there with him right now, I've been reading article online and now I'm turning to the nesties. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    This was us two weeks ago, it sucks. DS had an ear infection and the pedi said that both molars were coming in. Since laying down seemed to cause pain for his ears we did a lot of sleeping in the rocking chair. The pedi also said, before realizing that it was an ear infection, that separation anxiety can rear its ugly head  a lot at night when babies wake up alone in the dark.

    The middle of the night stuff is so hard, sorry.

    DS was having night terrors around this age...not sure if that is what your DS is experiencing, but thought it couldn't hurt to share.  DS would actually be worse when we tried to console him.  He just needed to be left alone and after a few minutes of screaming he calmed down and fell back asleep.

    Night terrors?  Maybe a tooth is about ready to come through?  Good luck!  I was up with DS for 2 hours last night and I'm sick myself, so I feel your pain on wanting to sleep!

    DS did this 2 nights ago.  It really freaked us out b/c he has never, ever acted that way.  He was totally inconsolable...screaming, crying, thrashing, kicking, pushing us away...nothing we did helped him.  The first time it lasted 20 minutes, the second time about 10 minutes.  Took him to the Dr. yesterday to see if there was something going on with him, but nothing seemed to be wrong with him at all.  He had been sick (feverish) recently and the Dr. said it could just be from getting over all that, could be night terrors, could be that a tooth is about to come through.  It was very frustrating leaving there with no sure answers, but it didn't happen last night so I'm hoping it's just a random occurance.  Good luck...it's sooo hard when you don't know what's wrong!
