1st Trimester

round ligament pain?

Hey girls,

I'm actually T-TTC, but I had a question only you can answer!

Have any of you experienced round ligament pain in the 1st tri?

How would you describe it if you do?

Heres why I ask:  I'm very aware and sensitive to my body.  When I got pregnant b4 (then later m/c) I had twinges in my abd. b4 I found out I was pg.

I'm at that point again now, and I have these sharp (not too discomforting) brief pains in my lower abd. on and off today, that started this afternoon.  I'm *really hoping* it is a good sign, but I don't know.  I know everyone is different with how they experience things.

Thanks girls!  I hope to be joining you again soon!

Re: round ligament pain?

  • RLP is typical in the 2nd and 3rd Tri as the ute grows, not common in the first, esp in early 1st.

  • I'm honestly not sure whether I'm feeling round ligament pain or just plain old cramping, but I tend to get fairly strong pains in my lower abd, and I had a little bit before I even got my BFP at exactly 4w1d. GL and HTH.

  • Here is how you know:

You may feel the pain starting from deep inside your groin, moving upward and outward on either side to the top of your hips. The pain is internal, but if you were to trace it on your skin, it would follow the bikini line on a very high-cut bathing suit.

Hmm. I felt exactly what (I think) you're describing today at school. We were learning to stretch somebody out on the massage table, and I'm a lot more flexible than most people. When my partner did a stretch that was SUPPOSED to stretch the hamstring muscles, I felt it up near my uterus instead, which NEVER gets stretched that way. It actually made all my cramping go away afterward. Was wonderful, but painful at the time.

  • Jar, I felt that with Mia around 9 - 12 weeks, so I think it's definitely possible to experience in the first tri.
  • You are not having RLP. Any cramps you are having are probably having implantation cramps.

  • Don't think it's RLP, but since my BFP last week I have definitely been feeling lots of little "twinges" and "tweaks" in my lower abdomen area. They're definitely sharp, but not really strong or painful. This along with a general low-level crampiness that comes and goes.

Good luck! I hope this is a good sign for you :)

That's why I said not typical in 1st tri. I too had it at 10-14w.

  • I have have this pain on and off again from about 2 months on. It is VERY painful and lasts about a minute or so and then goes away. It is enough to stop you and bend you over in pain. I talked to my DR and she said that this pain is normal. My pain never started that early but who knows if that is what you are having.
  • I had it during my 2nd tri with my DD. It was so painful!!! I actually got prescribed meds for it because it was interfering so badly with my life. I couldn't even step into the bathtub or the small step down into the garage without having to catch my breath...
