What do these mean? I have had the same one on my finger for a month now. I remember hearing it could be an iron deficiency? I doubt it with all the vitamins I take.

Re: white spots on fingernails?
That's what I always thought, but I could be very wrong lol
this. I get them when I "hurt" the nail.
Ditto greenclown - that's what I've heard anyway.
I get dark spots and the dermatologist told me they were little specks of dried blood - gross!
I had always heard they could be caused by too much salt in the diet.
which I thought made sense because I eat way too much salt and always have these.

From what I've been told it is likely nail trama kind of like a bruise to the nail. OR it could be due to a vitamin/mineral excess or deficiency...
I get them if I accidentally hit my finger on something.
FWIW, I have one now and my iron was recently test and was great.
But, I've seen on forensic files that it could be an indication of arsenic poisoning.

Holy crap. :0)
I was just thinking about the calcium deficiency thing. I have a white spot on four of my nails right now, and I drink an average of 2 gallons of milk a week by myself. I'm no doctor, and I am still saying I could be wrong, but I'm guessing that's not it. For me anyway!
I am a huge klutz and am constantly banging my limbs into everything :-P
That's what I thought, too. I got them a lot more while I was pregnant, though, so I have no idea.
ETA: Just googled, it is apparently due to minor injury to the nail bed.
Ditto this. I had a friend that would go through a gallon of milk in 2 days, not to mention cheese and yogurt. She had these on all 10 fingernails.
