3rd Trimester

would you do a 4 mile walk?

i signed up to do the march of dimes walk coming up and my mom told me that she doesnt think i should do it. it's all flat, and i'm sure if i start having some sort of issue i could stop. i hike periodically and go on walks - sure this will be a long enough walk to feel like a workout but it isn't unusual for somebody 33 weeks pg to walk 4 miles is it?

Re: would you do a 4 mile walk?

  • I would do it. Just take your time and stop if you need to. Then when you finish, treat yourself to some ice cream!! :)

  • I would, but I've always been a runner/walker.  If its beyond what you are used to doing then it may be too much.  But you could always start and see how you feel.  Just listen to your body.
  • I'd sure try at least.  As the PP said...just listen to your body.
  • Sure! If you feel that you can - do it.  My sister did a 3 mile at 34 weeks.
  • I walk about 4 miles every morning, so it would just be another routine day for me!

  • I'm 38w2d and I walk 3 miles every day. I work downtown Minneapolis, and because of the cost of parking, I park 1 1/2 miles from my work. If you're comfortable, do it.
  • I walk 2 1/2 miles a day 5 days a week, so it would be no sweat at all for me.  I only stop now at 2 1/2 miles because I get SO bored.  I'd try to do 2-mile walks 3 times a week until the event.  It IS a little much if you aren't ready for it, but if you're ready it should be no sweat and great for you and baby.
  • I've been doing 3.2 miles a day up until last week.  It was pretty tiring, but I probably could have handled the last .8 miles for a good cause.  I think if you like to walk generally, you should be okay.  Go slow and hydrate.
  • I would do it.  I'm a workout fanatic and I think I'd be able to do it.  I worked out daily (spin, elliptical, weights etc) with my first pg until day before I delivered.
  • I would do it.  I still felt pretty good at 33 weeks.  What a difference 3 weeks makes...that being said, I'm still walking over 2 miles four to five times/week.

  • this past weekend, i did the iron girl 5k, and i was fine. the 4 miles that you are doing is a bit longer, but, i would just take my time, and carry some water with you. GL!
  • I don't think so- I just got back half an hour ago from a 3 mile walk and I'm 39 weeks tomorrow.
