What do you consider the North and South? I only think of the North as being the Northeast, and the South as being the Southeast. Anything west of NY and east of CO is the 'midwest,' and further west than that is the west. All approximate of course.
Am I alone in this? I have a feeling how you look at this depends on where you are from?
Re: S/O of 'makes my blood boil'
I just typed out this whole long explanation of what I think, then I realized it was exactly the same as yours.
?
Anything south of Exit 100 on the NJ turnpike is south to me...
I consider anything North of Tennessee, 'up north'. I consider anything west of Texas 'out west', and all the stuff in the middle is 'mid west'. From Pennsylvania/New Jersey up into the little sticky up part is the North East in my book.

I say North is anything from Maine to PA, but only the half of PA EAST of Harrisburg.
Anything WEST of Harrisburg is midwest. Anything South of PA is South.
After living in Hometown, East Coast then College Town, Midwest and now Atlanta...I have seen a lot of distinct differences in anything from clothes to names to accents to concentrations of religions [ex. more Catholics on East Coast and more Baptists in the South].
Hahaha - probably because we're from the same area ;-)
A bunch of people in that post commented on Sarah Palin's kids' names, and said it was so far north - my reaction was, 'well that's not the north though!'
Pretty much that.
Texas is not midwest or western or southern, and definitely not northern. It's a blend.

Same here - I don't say Northeast, I say the North. And I guess I do consider Washington and such to be the Northwest.
What confused me was when some people referred to Indiana or Illinois (I think?) as being the North.
One person from Indiana referred to themselves as a Yankee, which made me go 'ermm...' But for all I know she might originally be from the North! It just got me thinking :-)
South = South of Mason-Dixon line. North = North of Mason-Dixon line.
Anything West of the Mississippi is midwest. And Florida and Texas are kind of their own entities.?
Alaska is definitely not THE north. I moved here from Athens, GA and I think the it is a HUGE mix of people from all over. The way that Sarah Palin is, I don't think of her as northern or southern, just weird and crooked.
this. plus florida has an exception too.
Hahaha so true!

South- below mason-dixon line
North- above it
