Re: Which diaper pail system?

  • None of the above - a waste of $$ IMO.

We use a step-can and dispose of DS's diapers on a daily basis. Problem solved for us.

  • None of the above. Wal-mart plastic bag thrown in the dumpster outside. I don't like the idea of dirty diapers just sitting there. (Yes, I am weird.)

    This.

  • Not sure what the difference is between the regular Champ and the "new" Champ, but we didn't really like it.  It didn't really contain the stink too well.  A regular trash pail emptied daily would have worked just as well.

You are not weird. I told DH he needs to install a diaper chute (like at the bank) that goes directly into a can in the garage.

  • I registered for one at Target with a sensor lid that opens when you wave your hand over it.  Honestly, if nobody buys it for us.. I'm just going to use a trash can with a wet bag (for cloth diapers).

  • I think we are just going to get a good quality garbage can that has a seal top that you step to open.  Eventually I will have that replace our stupid plastic one in the kitchen that has a swingy top.
  • We registered for the Diaper Champ.  Its what a couple friends have and they like it.

I know us well enough to know we won't be taking out a garbage bag every day.  We can't even get our kitchen trash out on trash day, much less remember to do that can once a day.

  • I registered for the Diaper Genie 2, but just because i've only heard of that one and it is the only one I saw at the time... oh the power of advertising! lol. If we don't get it as a gift, i'm not sure if I will buy one or just do what everyone else is doing i.e. regular trash can/bags.

  • Probably a plastic bag.  That is what DH uses twice a day when he cleans the cat litter and it works just fine!
  • We're going with the champ! I like that we don't have to buy special bags for them like the Genie.

I know some people say they're a waste of money but we live in a condo where all trash has to be taken down to the basement. I know myself well enough to know that with a baby at home, I'm not going to want to take diapers down 7 flights all the time. If I lived in a house, I probably would forgo the system.

  • Genie II

My friend has the diaper champ and she said it was great at first, but then once baby started eating real food and having real poops it did not contain the smell at all.

  • We're skipping the "diaper pail" and just using a trash can with a step-lid with a wet bag for cloth diapers.?
  • We have a Diaper Champ and it was great for the first 6 months.  Once Rylie started eating more foods, it just got too stinky in her room.  Now we just put the pee diapers in the kitchen garbage and the poop diapers go out in the garage.  So if you get one, great, if not, no biggie either.

  • We use the Diaper Champ for pee diapers. It holds the smell very well, and you don't need special bags. We toss the poopie diapers in a trash can in the garage until trash day.

  • No one has mentioned the Diaper Dekor, but we are going to give that one a try. The refills are way to expensive for the Genie, and the reviews are not as great as they use to be. The Champ definitely does not contain the smell, and Baby Bargains said the new ones with the larger opening get stuff stuck in them (like wipes, etc.) So, we're trying it out. Some reveiwers said that they use a regular trash bag in that one, too.

Basically, the best option is to find a step can with a solid seal at the top.

Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
  • I registered for the Graco touch free diaper pail at target, but it is currently unavailable, so I also registered for The first years clean air odor free diaper pail.  I have heard nothing but bad reviews on the diaper genies.  Plus, we didnt want to be stuck having to only purchase expensive refills for it.

  • None of them. With DD we had the genie and it was a waste of money for us. plastic bags and a sealed trash can are just what you need.
  • We are hiring a post-partum doula who has been in the business for 9 years.  She recommended the Diaper Dekor over all others because it's best at containing the stink.  You have to buy special bags, but it's worth it to me!  (FYI to anyone who is considering the Dekor - the new "biodegradable" bags have gotten awful reviews, but you can still buy the original bags straight from the manufacturer, Regal + Lager.)
