That's right. I judged her. She smoked through BOTH of her pregnancies. Nothing would convince her to quit/stop. She always said, "My Mom smoked while she was pregnant with me and I turned out fine."
She even smoked at her BABY SHOWER! Disgusting, right? Ugh, I was so annoyed and embarrased for her. So yes, I am a Judgey McJudgerson when it comes to women smoking while pregnant. Ya know what? I'm perfectly fine with it too.
P.S My friend ended up quitting because both of her kids were ALWAYS sick (numerous ear infections, bronchitis, you name it). It's just a shame that she couldn't do it before the babies were born.
Re: S/O smoking while pg; I judged my friend
I will judge you all day long if you smoke while you are pregnant and I beg you to say something to me about judging for that. I also think that smoking around your child is just as bad. It kills me to see parents riding around in their cars smoking with all of the windows rolled up... those poor kids. How selfish can you be?
My sister in law is currently pregnant and still smoking and did with her first child also. She keeps telling me, I am trying, it is just so hard to quit. Look, I do not care how hard it is. You are a mother now, it is not just about your needs and wants. Grow up, man up and be responsible.
::Steps off of soapbox now::
OMG! Cute siggy pic!
Please return to your regularly scheduled judging?
I worked with a gal who stated her doctor told her to smoke 1 cigarette a day to keep her baby's birth weight lower. They expected a very large baby (2nd pregnancy) so she was told it was to do one a day during the whole 9 months.
To make it worse, by work has a smoking break room, filled with smoke ALL THE TIME. She'd go smoke in their, so getting 1st and 2nd hand smoke.
Even if her doctor did suggest this, I don't think it's something that should be done in public. If you need to do it, do it at home.
Doesn't child abuse laws cover this? Because they should ...
I think your co-worker is a big fat LIAR ... no doctor would "prescribe" a cigarette a day to a pregnant woman - to prevent a large baby, what bullshiit, that's insane.
"When it comes to sleeping, whatever your baby does is normal. If one thing has damaged parents enjoyment of their babies, it's rigid expectations about how and when the baby should sleep." ~ James McKenna, Ph.D., Mother Baby Behavioral Sleep Center, University of Notre Dame
baby #4 due March '17!
Ya know my mom always said that crap too we have picture of her smoking while BF my older sister.
I wish my mother would have had the good sense to quit my sister has terrible asthma and allergies. I have chronic Brochitis and am partially deaf from all the ear infections I had as a child.
I too judge people I know for it. A friend of mine said she was glad her DS was small, that made him easier to push out.
And someone else I know smokes while pg and her baby has a birth defect. wonder if there's a connection?
Judge away; I find it absolutely disgusting.?
My mother smoked with my brother and I; we were both born at six pounds. We were both constantly sick while growing up. I had a mysterious issue with a cough that never went away and problems breathing (to the point where I had to have an inhaler, but I was not diagnosed with asthma) all throughout junior high and high school.
When I moved out of my mother's house, it went away a couple of months later. Coincidence??
I will judge and I won't feel bad about it.?
Judge away, I do.
My MIL, FIL and BIL all smoke and live in the same house. BIL and SIL have a 16 month old boy and #2 on the way and they all still chain smoke.
Nephew has had a ear infection every 2 months since birth has allergies and has had several upper respitory infections.
DH and I put our foot down and will not allow DS to be in the house if they are smoking and we bring our own blanket from home to lay on the floor for DS to lay and play on. We really do not even want my ILs to hold DS becaus of 3rd hand smoke.
Nephew was very low in birth weight just 6 lbs at full term and IUGR. 2nd baby is measuring small every US. It is so sad.
I smoked for the 1st 4 months I was pregnant. Don't get me wrong I didn't just smoke. I was trying to quit but finding it very difficult. I finally just said this is stupid. The couple I had here & there where not worth it. I would go a day w/out smoking than I'd have 3 the next day. I quite when I was 15 weeks pregnant & have not started back up again. You can judge me thats fine. I can live with it. No one is going to make me feel any worse than I did myself.
