What are you doing with your tax refund?

DH and I did taxes last night a figured out we are getting a little over $5,000 back. We are trying to decided what to do with the money. Our choices are Disney vacation when the baby is a year old, add to a new house fund, or get some new furniature and a new TV. What you you doing with your refund?

  • With my state refund I am paying my Federal Taxes owed... no fun.

  • Put it back in my bank where it belongs... Its not like its free money... this is the money that you worked for.
  • padding the savings account. boring but smart.
  • We got more back than we expected...We took a 7-day cruise last week and we'll probably use the remaining to put some new flooring down. We'll see :)

  • We paid most of it to DH's student loans. The rest we set aside so we can put a fence in our back yard after the ground thaws, which it has either recently done or will do soon. We really know how to live it UP!
  • We are going on vacation and we paid off a few bills.

  • If we get one, it is going toward debt!

  • We added what we got to our "hurry up and get what we want done before baby" fund.  So, we had a deck built.  It is quite excellent!

  • owe federal (really pissed about this too, never owed before) and getting back refund from state...which will pay fed with a little left over. That will go straight to savings :(

  • Nursery furniture.

We don't get much back, purposfully.  I'd rather have the money in hand through out the year.

However, I expect we'll get a really good refund next year, since we'll be adding the kiddo on.

  • I only got $600 back... so it went to buy baby stuff!
  • We paid off all of our debt... it was good for us, but no fun.

  • We got back $1000 and I bought a crib and the rest is going to dr bills.  Don't go to Disney World when the baby is 1yo, they won't remember it.  It is a vaca for you not the baby so you should just go now.
  • We paid off our high interest credit cards. That was actually fun for me!

  • Bills bills bills and if we are lucky put some back into savings...
  • This, but I don't get too upset about paying taxes. I would rather be paying back an interest-free loan than having to wait for the government to pay me back on the interest-free loan I gave them for the year!  One day, I will figure out the perfect balance and withhold just the right amount so I neither owe nor receive on 04/15!  (a girl can dream)

  • We are using our state refund to pay for what we owe on federal.....stupid 1099!!!  At least we break even.
  • A crib and a dresser!

I'm hiding the rest away in my account since my DH can't control himself.  We want to make sure that we have padding in case there are extra medical expenses, etc.

  • err...paying for this kid ;)
  • -laughs- My husband and I will owe like we have for the past 9-years. Probebly in the ball park between 5 to $6,000.

Don't listen to her! Anytime is a good time to go to Disney World! We're going to be going next year before our LO is even a year. So what if they won't remember it, it's not like you can't go again later. I'm a bit of a Disney World lover can you tell? LOL

  • Lousy AMT.  We owe Federal and are getting money from the State.  However, we don't expect to see a dime from California for a while given its current financial condition.

Refund or not, we're still going ahead with our six babymoons in seven weeks, buying all of our furniture and planning to buy a home and new car in the next six months.  Ahh, the joys of never being in debt.

The baby may not remember it but our other three children will and we want to go while they are still really into disney characters. We went just the two of us last October for our honeymoon and promised to take them in a few years.
