Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Help, DD runs away from me...

whenever we are in a public place.  This started about 2 weeks ago when she started to run.  Before she would walk beside me and hold my hand.  I like to take her places and I would rather her walk instead of sit in a stroller for long periods of time.  It's still winter time here and so indoors is really the only option.  Advice on what to do?

  • sorry. get used to it. :)...this is what she will be doing 10-15 years from now... she is just preparing you for it now. :)

what about one of those cute backpacks with cuddly dogs or bears on them with a leach?

  • We are in the same boat.  Trying to get 2 boys to the car from our apartment is crazy.  We will be getting one of those monkey backpacks soon

  • We bought a monkey backpack and it is worthless for us. The problem is DS will either stand with us or wants to run where he is not allowed to go (the street, etc.). The harness isn't going to stop him from throwing himself to the ground or trying to run and falling. If your DC is content with a little room but won't try and bolt then it is fine. It really is just a safety thing.

Solution: If he won't walk nice with us then he goes in the stroller, fit and all. After a second he gets over it and is happy looking at all the people.

  • I have a serious mobility disability so I proudly leash my son!  I can't risk having him jump into traffic, b/c I might not catch up to him in time.  We got a cute monkey back-pack he wears and I wear the other end on my wrist.  He has never escaped and when we are in more serious places he also has to hold my hand.

  • i was one of those parents that said "ill never put my child on a leash" foot in mouth.. dd is a runaway as well:) Monkey backpack leash to the rescue!! I used it the other day at the mall. she got lots of comments like oh what a great idea- cute monkey and she was so proud. plus it gave her a little room, but never too far, and sooo much more safe. Made a very happy mall trip to see the easter bunny!! i highly recommend it...
