Advice Greatly Appreciated

I need your advice.  I am able to dodge drinking in social situations right now, giving it up for lent, but Easter is upon us so I can?t claim that anymore as an alibi.  Here is the background.  My mother and I are flying down to visit my sister in Atlanta next week.  I am currently twiddling my thumbs during the 2WW and it will only be 14 DPO the day we leave for the trip.  Needless to say the three of us like to throw back bottles of wine like it is nobody?s business when we are together so what should I do?  My sister knows we are TTC but my mom has no clue.  Granted I may get a BFP but I am not counting on one.  Should I just be honest or what should I say?  If I mention TTC to my mom that is all I am going to hear about.  I LOVE the woman to death but then EVERYONE will know we are TTC and?blah blah blah, you get the idea J  PLEASE HELP! I need ideas

  • Test the morning before you go.  If you don't get it, I wouldn't worry about drinking too much.  I would just try to fake drink, or say that  you're trying to lose a few pounds and you aren't drinking because of that.

  • I am not one to admit this but I got hammered the month we conceived...was kind of expecting it to not happen that month went to Colorado and had a "really" good time...was pregnant the next month...maybe its what I needed to get the job done :)
  • I would avoid alcohol, just by chance you are pregnant. If you tell your mother in confidence, would she still blab to people?? Hopefully not!

of course if I told her in confidence she would try to keep to herself, I just dont want to tell her and get her hopes up and have nothing happen.  I've always envisioned surprising her and my dad because they will make fantastic grandparents so I want my first pregnancy (their first grandchild) to be a memorable experience and I think telling her I might be pregnant will ruin that.  I know that is silly but (lip pounting) its what I have been dreaming of for a while now.

  • Could you maybe tell a little white lie that you need to avoid alchol for 48 hours for a physical Monday morning??    We just did new insurance policies and had to have a physical.   Our agent suggested avoiding alcohol a few days before not to raise any flags.

  • PS.  We are TTC too.  I used this one the past weekend for my family.   Not sure what I'm going to use on Sunday.   My MIL and SIL have been watching me like a crazy!!!   I'm tempted to bring an "altered" bottle of wine that only has a glass or two so I'm not asked to share.   aka kool aid

    I like that idea! Thanks

  • Do the fake wine idea!  Or try that!  The week after my BFP we went out with our friends and I had to tell them I wasn't feeling well but they all knew I was PG and just left it alone.  GL!

  • Actually if you drink during the 2WW, it does nothing.  The baby lives on the nutrition in the egg for the first 6 weeks and is not attached to the placenta yet, hence not getting alchohol.  So really, drink up if you want.  (of course feel free to verify this info - but i'm pretty sure it's correct).  It's weeks 6-12 where the most alcohol damage is done in a pregnancy.

this. I'm fairly certain this is correct. A co-worker of mine went on a 10 day cruise. Not knowing she was pregnant, she drank A LOT the entire vacation. She found out right after they got back. Her baby is fine and the doctor had told her not to worry too much about it...it would take a lot more than one week of VERY heavy drinking to really do damage.

Otherwise, you could claim you're on antibiotics.

Yeah, I did some research and most of the articles said that for anything to happen I would need to constantly consume large quantities of alcohol.  Although I am no stranger to hangovers I now like to drink to my ?happy place? of only slight slurred speech and no volume control. J  we will see how it goes.  I would just feel CRAZY guilty if something happened.  I guess I was thinking that drinking might prevent implantation or something like that but I don?t think it has an effect.  I?ll let you know how it goes.  Thank you for your ideas and support.

  • I didn't know I was preg until I was 7 weeks along (IF problems and no period was very common) and I was intoxicated more than a time or two up to the point I got my BFP. My DD is perfectly fine.
