As I posted below, I'm now almost 13 months post-partum, and still no AF. I had attributed it to the fact that I EBF Stephie up until 1 month ago (nursed her mornings/nights and pumped at work) and then weaned to nursing morning and night only and not pumping any more once she turned 1. However, a few of our responses got me thinking...should I have had AF by now? A few questions:
1. For those who breastfed, how long was it before you had AF, even once?
2. Should I ask my OB for a prescription for Provera, hoping to "jump-start" things, or should I just wait it out? We're not on a strict time-line, and though these eggs certainly aren't getting any younger, I'm only 30, so we do have some time to play with. A few months would be reasonable for me to wait, but if it's not going to happen on its own, let's get the show on the road, you know?
Thanks!!!
Re: When to ask for Provera...
Hey, I BF for 2 weeks so I got nuthin. I have heard form friends that it can take a good month or two for AF to come back. Ditto the charting idea. Your body may not jump back into fertile mode straight away but you will get a pretty good idea of what it's doing in the meantime.
I happen to agree with Fran here. Provera isn't cool. Mind you, none of the drugs are. If you can get away with not having to take them it can only be better for you.
Good luck and keep us updated!
My body is all screwed up, and in fact the only time i had a regular period was when i was BFing....
However, after i was fully done, I had an annual and my OB told me to call if i don't get AF within 3-4 months. I don't think they want you to go for long intervals without a period under normal circumstances because your lining can become too think and polyps could develop.
