Trying to Get Pregnant

To test or not to test

My sister-in-law thinks I should still test even though I got my period on Monday...I just got off BC in January, got my first period after like 36 days or something, and just got it a few days ago, so it was almost 2 months.  She says women can still get their period when they're pregnant, which happened to my DH's mother with her first baby.

I really don't think I'm pregnant, but she didn't either.  Should I test anyways since it was such a long time between this period and the last?

Re: To test or not to test

  • I wouldn't.  You got your period.  That's usually the #1 indication that you are not pg.

sure it can happen - but it is extremely rare.

  • Implantation bleeding is incredibly rare but not completely unheard of.  Was what you had light or heavy or something in between?  Do you chart?  If not you don't know if you're late.

  • All I need to say is "no"

you're not pregant, you shouldn't test, and you can't get pregnant on your period (you could possibly implant on your "period").  End of story.

  • I don't see the need for you to test, but if you want to, go ahead.

ditto. if it was at all likely women would be walking around pregnant everywhere and not know. ?fortunately it is extremely rare and we only see most of the those cases on crazy TLC shows.?

Well a week and a half ago I thought I was getting my period because I had it for one day and that was it, I was so confused, that had never happened before where it looked like it was my period but only lasted a day...wasn't just a little blood either.  And then it was like a normal period this week.  I don't chart, but just started this week since I figured it was a new cycle.

  • i would.  the $tree has hpts for a dollar.

it happened to my aunt.  .....full fledged AF the first mo. she was ku with her baby girl.. who was just born in November.  :)

  • I've gone 3 months without a period and I am still waiting on it.  BCP does some crazy things to us.  Long cycles are common after getting off the pill.  Hopefully yours will regulate.

To answer your question, no I don't think you should test.  But I think I probably wasted a test or two before I knew better, so you can if you want.

    Good Luck!

  • I would test for the piece of mind.  However, it can take a while for your cycles to regulate after BCP.  It took me about 6 months.

  • Well, it can't hurt to test. My sister had a full on period in the early stages of her pregnancy. GL!
  • You could test just for piece of mind...but don't get your hopes up.

  • I am gonna go against the norm here and say go ahead and test. Wasting pregnancy tests is like a TTC rite of passage. Until you do it, you will never fully appreciate just how dumb you were to do it. You need to be able to look back and say "Wow, I was an idiot, and wasted lots of money testing for no reason."

    So. Test away!

  • Two comments:  I would say test, otherwise you'll wonder for the rest of the month.  Second, you have an unrelated PM!
