Throwing food and everything else. Advice?

My son has started throwing everything he can get his hands on.  The most frustrating part is mealtime.  He throws anything we put on his tray.  When I tell him 'no we don't throw food' he goes into a fit of hysterics.  To the point where I'm afraid he's going to make himself sick.  I am at my wits end with this.  Does anyone have suggestions?

Thanks

Re: Throwing food and everything else. Advice?

  • When he starts throwing the food, take it away and tell him "Ok I'll take it away if your done". Repetition is key. Soon he'll realize that if he throws his food you'll take it away. This also works with throwing sippy cups too.

  • The only time my DD throws food is if she's full and starts playing with it and tossing it to the dog. Sometimes though, she throws her sippy for laughs. I just take it away. Just like the food. She'd eat it if she was hungry, and I'm sure she's not going to die of thirst without a sippy for 10 minutes.

She also will throw food that she doesn't like. Or if there's another option visible to her that she'd rather have. I've learned to hide her fav's till after she's finished what she's more likely to throw on the ground. Ex: She wanted tomoatos out of pasta salad. So next time I gave her only pasta, then the tomatos at the end.

  • I take it away too.
  • I don't give back whatever he throws

But I think he's still hungry.  Like last night for example. He was throwing peas, but if I gave em to him on a spoon, he ate the heck out of them.

    Ahhh the joys of toddlerhood....
