Pacifiers...

I hate to introduce a paci so early, but DD likes to suck and suck and we can't get her to sleep at night without sucking on something.  Are there any pacifiers that are better for babies so young?  Thanks.

Re: Pacifiers...

  • We've used the soothies.  He seems to like them, though he admittedly doesn't use them that often any more.

  • DD would only ever take a soothie.?
  • We were afraid to introduce the paci too, but a nurse at the hospital told us to try it once, then see how she feeds the next few times. ?If we noticed a difference in her latch, stop the paci. ?But if we didn't, then the paci isn't doing any harm and there would be no problem in using it. ?So far, no problems.

  • nuk have been our favorite so far. I hated the idea of a paci, I really didnt want to ever use one. When we broke down and gave ds one he loved it, and has been such a better baby.

I was given the soothie by the hospital.

Same here - except we had to switch to NUK ones at 3 weeks because the dog kept eating the soothies.  No problem with either.

  • I've been using Soothies with my DS too.  Although, he now knows the difference between the paci and the boob, and often will not take a pacifier.  Other times he'll hold it in his mouth while he's sucking (and it's really cute!).

  • I love Mams nano pacis. They are very light weight, and Jude always held on to them better than soothies and avent.
  • We didn't want to use one either, and I fought it until week 4. I just put her on the boob whenever she wanted to suck before that because I thought it was necessary to get my supply where it needed to be. However, come week 4 I noticed she was using me as a human pacifier, so we introduced one...and she only takes it sometimes, when she is going to sleep....I EBF and haven't noticed any problems at all.

We were given the soothie in the hospital, I think that is supposed to be good for newborns. However now we use the Avent ones, because she likes those best and they stay in her mouth better than soothie or nuk. We also introduced the bottle around the same time and she preferred Avent bottles too.
