Where do you get a sterile cup on short notice

Ugg. So my clinic prefers my H get his 'sample' at home the day of ER and we bring it in. Thing is - I never knew this until last night. I am new to the clinic and always just assumed he could do it there since that is how my old clinic worked (my old clinic preferred it was done on site).

So last night when she told me I needed one I asked where and she said any pharmacy will have them or I could come to them and get one. Well I just went to 3 pharmacies and none of them have 'em! My RE is 45 minutes away, I will not be driving there.

Can I just walk into a medical clinic and ask for one? I have one about 15 minutes away I could go to. A nursing home? I have one 5 minutes away. Some strange doctors office? Would they be kind enough to give me one? Hell - my old RE? Anything is closer then driving to my RE and getting one. Had I known I would need to do this I would have made sure to get one during one of my stim checks!!

Can I sterilize one myself?

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • I suggest the ER (meaning emergency room) or call your obgyn. How flipping annoying!

  • What about a labcorp or a quest nearby??

  • I had a hard time finding one also. I went to an OB/GYN where I wasn't a patient and just asked for one. I acted like I knew what I was doing and I think they assumed I was a patient? I also called several pharmacies and they didn't carry them. It was a real pain in the neck.
  • Do you have a medical supply store nearby?  They have all sorts of random things!

  • Yes, just got to any hospital, Dr's office or clinic and they will give you one.  We've had to do this twice already.  There's no questions asked - they just hand you one and go about their business.

  • What about a drug store? ?Our local CVS has all sorts of little vials and containers for sale. ?If they're not available on an aisle, you might try asking the pharmacists. ?They usually have a bunch of goodies behind the counter that are available for purchase, but for one reason or another can't be stocked on the regular shelves. ?

Good luck! ?What a frustrating little bugaboo to have to deal with!?

  • Ugh, this happened to us and was a total pain in the tush. After going to a Walgreen's, CVS, and another pharmacy, I just went into a doctors office and explained my situation and asked for one. They were very nice about it and gave me one right away! :)

  • I have gotten them from my local CVS but I do have to ask the pharmacist for it because they only have them behind the pharmacy counter
  • our local pharmacy (Walgreens) has sterile cups behind the Pharmacy counter.. I think they are a dollar and some change.. GL

  • Krissy - he doesn't have to do it at home.  We were told it was an option but my DH did all of his there for our IVF cycles.  Just show up and they'll ask if he brought his sample.  Just say no and put his name on the sign in sheet.  Should be no problem for him to do it there.

  • I had this same issue and it's so frustrating.  None of the drug stores/ pharmacies around me carry them either.  I ended up going to my regular OB and they gave me one.

The nurse seemed very put off by me asking if he could just do it there. She said "if he must, just come in 1/2 hour sooner, but we prefer he do it at home"Kind of snippy, or maybe it was just how I percieved it because I am hormonal =)

So I figured I would not be a pain in the butt and have him do it home. TO me it just seems easier for H to do it there and not risk transport issues, but I didn't ask his opinion. If he rather do it there then he will! Thanks.

I'm sorry that she was snippy (or that you perceived it that way).

The other secret they don't tell you...when he signs in, next to the box he checks write "video" and he will get the better room.  Sometimes if it is busy they stick the guys in an exam room.  If he writes video in they will only bring him to the room with a couch and TV.  Yes, my DH advertises that he needs the video (he is secure with himself)...but without lube he needs a little something!

As for lube, if he needs it, he can only use pure glycerin.  I can give you tips on where to get that too (DH brings it for back up)
