1st Trimester

Brown spotting?

Good morning! I am currently 9.5 weeks. I woke this morning to some brown spotting. Not enough to stain underwear, just when I wipe. Not even everytime. I am FREAKING OUT! I have my first us today, so I know I don't have to wait to long to find something out, but I am still going crazy. I have not had sex with DH recently, but I did have a pap smear a week ago today. Could it be from that? I've read various things on google, which I know sometimes Google can be terrible, but I've found diff. things. Most sites say don't worry if it is brown with no cramping. It could be old blood, uterine stretching, etc. But then some sites say miscarriage........

I know you guys can't diagnose me, but anyone have this experience and everything turn out ok???

Re: Brown spotting?

  • I'm pretty sure that brown is OK... Don't freak out, and just sit tight until you see your Dr.!:)  Good Luck!

  • I feel like most of my 1st tri has been me spotting.  At my last u/s the lab tech was able to see where I was bleeding from and told me that I could expect more spotting to come.  It was not from the placenta or even near my growing baby.  Let your OB know so they can keep an eye on it.   GL at you ultrasound.
  • I have had brown spotting off and on since my BFP.  I have had two ultrasounds already that showed normal growth and a strong heartbeat and yesterday the doctor was able to find the heartbeat using the doppler.  I completely understand worrying, because I still do too.  Luckily you will get answers today.  Good Luck!

  • just let your doctor know, but im sure its fine. my midwife always tells me that brown is good - its old blood. i have had spotting twice (red, pink, then brown) and they gave me u/s both times & everything was fine. as hard as it is, try not to worry & luckily with your u/s already scheduled you'll get some piece of mind today.
  • I have some spotting/bleeding, what should I do?  Please call your doc ASAP.  We are all very cautious when it comes to this and no matter how many successful spotting stories we have, there are just as many losses.  It is always better to be safe than sorry.  Everyone's bleeding is different from color to amount to what week it happened, and we support you and will be here if you need us to send vibes, but there is no way for us to know what your bleeding means, so call your doc and keep us updated!
