If you formula feed from the start...

Did you purchase formula before DC was born or wait until after? If you purchased beforehand, what brand did you choose and why? I guess I could just send DH to get formula after DS is born so  I don't have a bunch of formula on hand that we can't use due to an allergy or something but I'm curious what others did. Thanks!

Re: If you formula feed from the start...

  • I asked what formula they give at the hospital and bought the same. They also sent us home with some just in case we didn't have any.

  • Personally I would go to each website.. Enfamil.com, nestle, similac and sign up for their sites. Usually they'll send you samples and cupons this way. Then you'll have different kinds at home already to test in case of an allergy. And it's free.

  • Usually the hospital will send you home with enough to last you a day or 2 and I'm pretty sure most give out the free diaper bags from the formula company that you choose.  The bag will have a can of formula in it that should last at least a few weeks so you should be ok initially.

  • I signed up for formula checks on the websites before DD was born but didn't buy any formula until I knew what the hospital was using. ?We wanted to keep it the same. ?The hospital used Similac so that's what we use. ?We've had no problems at all and get checks in the mail pretty frequently.
  • They sent us home w/ some. BFF also got us some.

  • I had to supplement w/ formula in the beginning and the hospital sent me home with so much.  I also got more at DS first pedi appointment.

  • Sorry, guys. I'm addicted to 0-6 even though I haven't had mine yet! I promise not to say anything too stupid!

I have one can of Enfamil and the two free cans of Simlac they sent me in the mail. My sis and I were lactose intolerant, so my mom recommended that I not stock up in case something like that happens.

I've been putting a little money on a gift card each week so I have enough money to feed the baby through my maternity leave. Then I don't have to worry about only making 80% pay (as I will on leave) and still trying to figure out how to buy things for baby! Our baby shower returns also helped with that.
