Babies: 0 - 3 Months

How many do you go through?

I am very newly pregnant with my first child, but was recently suggested by a friend to consider cloth diapers.  There is a service that delivers to my area for $20 a week and said that it's comparable in price to using disposables.  I found that I can get 80 disposables for $20 and so was wondering, how many diapers should I expect to go through (per day or week) the first couple of months? I have a long time to think about this still but it's bothering me.

Anyone have any suggestions?

  • Loading the player...
  • The first few weeks there was a poopy diaper after almost every feeding.  We went through about 12 per day.  Now (3 months)  we probably go through 6 diapers during the day and 2 or 3 diapers at night...
  • About 8 a day.
  • At Sams Club I get a box of 230 (it might be 250 but I will give you 20) or so for $39.99.

i would say that right now I go through at least 10 a day. There are feedings where I go through three within two hours. It just varies, as time goes the count will go down but not by much.

Lets just say that you go through 10 diapers a day for a year that would equal 3,650 diapers in one year. So for a box of 230 diapers costing $40 it would cost you around $635.00 a year in diapers.

You said your diaper cloth cleaning service would be $20.00 a week which would be $1,040.00 dollars a year.

  • I go through about 12. Just a thought... not all diaper brands have equal diapers. I would look at the cost of a few brands...

  • Thanks to everyone, I appreciate it!

  • Doing cloth with a service is probably the most expensive way to diaper.  If you're considering cloth, I'd wash them yourself (unless you don't have a washer/dryer in your home).  It's much easier then you would think - we've been CDing for 5 months and it's been great!  Head over to the Eco Friendly Family boards if you have more CD questions - you'll get lots of great advice.
