EBFers - how often do you give LO a bottle?

Pediatrician suggested giving LO a bottle of EBM 1x a day so she gets used to a bottle. Currently we only give her one if I am out or if I am exhausted (probably only 1-2x a week). If I give her one a day, I won't be able to put any away in the freezer as it would all go to her bottle. I don't like to pump all the time and don't get that much when I do. H has no problem getting her to take the bottle so do you think just the 1-2x a week is okay?

  • Since DD was 1 month we've been giving her at least 1 a day. DH gives her the bedtime bottle every night. Any other bottle is if I'm not around.

  • She used to get at least a bottle a day, but now we've cut back to one on Saturdays and Sundays (I'm trying to save my stash for when I go back to work).

  • Never.  She won't take it...  It's not an issue now, but I wish she would take it so I could have a little more freedom in the future.

  • After the first week of giving it every day, we figured she would take it in a pinch.  We only give it to her once a week or so, and that works fine for us.

  • We only give her a bottle once or twice a week. She hasn't had any problems with taking the bottle, so I think we're okay. I don't want to dip into my freezer stash too much before I go back to work.
  • Every couple of days.  I make sure she has it at least that often.  I know several babies that started refusing bottles when they were a few months old & I am determined that DD will not be one of them!

  • We do it once a day, sometimes twice. I pump enough for one bottle (4 oz.) and one freezer bag (2-4 oz.) each night
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut

My LC told me to start giving him one a day at 6 weeks old to get him into the habit.  Stupid me--I didn't do it and now DS cries like a banshee when anyone but me tries to give him a bottle.  I'm stuck in the house with him--I can only go to a late movie after his bedtime!  In a pinch, he'll take one but there will be tears and screams.

    It sucks.

I heartily recommend getting your DC into the habit at 6 weeks like my LC told me to.

  • DH gives her a bottle every night. I usually pump sometime during the middle of the night when she sleeps a longer stretch and my boobs are full.
