Washington Babies

I am really really tired...

..of hearing about how other people were when they were pregnant. This lady at my work keeps telling me all these things I can't eat because she had all these problems when she ate certain things. Or how DH's ex got really saggy boobs because she tried to breast feed for a week and it didn't work with all her other kids. And how I will be so cranky and upset because other people in DH's family were that way after they had their baby. Or how all the women that married into DH's were dead beat Mom's. Oh and how no one likes the name we picked out and thinks we should change it on DH's side of the family. And how DH's ex had long labor with her first, so I must have the same thing. Or how DH's first son was large, etc.

Honestly if I hear one more, "when I was pregnat" or when "DH's ex was pregant" I am going to scream! Last night when DH and MIL were talking with me about the babies name and MIL and DH started on that I said, "Well everyone is different. And just because those things happened to them doesn't mean that it will happen to me. So let's just not keep talking about that anymore." They both looked at me like I was nuts!

Just wait until you have strangers telling you things. Goodness, that's a real treat. Just the other day, I had some guy ask me if I was having twins. I wish I could have come up with some witty retort, but all I got out was a simple "nope." I am not even that big...

Then people will start to tell you how to get the baby out, as if you have some sort of control over it. And you will try their crazy advice because you want the baby to come out...

And don't even get me started on the labor "horror" stories. Those are awful to listen to. But if it happend to them, it happens to everyone...

  • Seriously lol! I don't know why people get the urge. And MIL thinks she knows everything because she was practically the kids second mother during all the births and after. Geez!
  • "Or how DH's ex got really saggy boobs because she tried to breast feed for a week and it didn't work with all her other kids. "

That's my favorite.  Like "trying" to BF for a week is the reason her boobs sagged.  ridiculous.

People like to share war stories.   Just blow them off.

  • I know lol! Isn't that horrible. I mean the women did have 3 kids. And she did have her kids pretty young, at 16. I mean I am sure none of those played into it at all. Or the fact that everyone's body is different. Like my Mom has had 6 kids and hers sag a little, but they look pretty damn good for 6 kids! Come on people.

And now I am wishing we would have never told DH's family, mainly his Mom who has the BIGGEST mouth in the world, what we wanted to name the baby. I wish it would have been a surprise now.

  • As well all know my MIL is crazy and she had the best stories for me when I was pg. She'd say things like, "When I went into labor the doctors looked inside and couldn't see the baby!!!! The baby was invisible!"and "You will DEFINITELY have a c-section cause I did and that's just the way all the babies are born in THIS family."

ummmm...what?!?! Invisible baby?? Looked inside?? WTH are you talking about?!?!

Just ignore them...if you can. :)

I'm seriously serious. She said the DR looked in her hooha and couldn't see the baby. NO DUH LADY....It's not like labor starts and the baby is just THERE. Gawd.

  • My mom was really good about keeping her mouth shut, MIL was not... You kinda just have to grin and bear it, unless you can come up with a really witty response. I always came up with responses later, after the fact. Like when people asked if I had "twins in there?", I always came up with something good later in the day.

Wait til after the baby is born. Then everyone has advice about what to do for everything. How to put them to sleep, how to feed them, how to dress them... I swear, people used to lecture me about putting hats on Emma, but the second I put one on, she screamed! To this day, if we put a hat on her, it's off within one minute. Unless it's one that attaches under her chin! :-)

Good luck! Hopefully people will learn to keep their mouths shut. I bet if you just lay in to one person, word will get out that they shouldn't talk to you about it... ;-)

  • invisible baby?

    sheesh.

I'm so glad my mom and MIL were actually pretty good about not telling me what to do or anything.... I actually got more pressure from friends about CIO - that one really about drove me over the edge.  But otherwise, people were pretty good.

  • Ok this is too weird.......So my DH talks about his ex and their son all the time and is always telling me what to expect or he knows this or that is going to happen....it drives me crazy and really upsets me too. He even tried getting me to have the same OB as his ex wife!!!! I freaked out. Its hard marrying into a ready made family. I hate that DH thinks he knows more than me because he has one DS. Ahhhh its insane.
  • Also this lady at work is constantly walking by my desk telling me not to eat anything I have in my hands because it will give my baby a birth defect and its so overly exaggerated. When i first found out she had me so scared I was afraid to eat anything. I just tell her thanks but no thanks and eat my snacks. LOL
  • Get an empty beer bottle and bring it in to work and use it to drink water out of.  That will kill her.
