Poll: wedding day mishaps?

Were there any little (or big) things that went wrong on your wedding day?

The only mishaps we had were that our chocolate fountain didn't work and our DJ didn't have a song that's special to one of my closest friends and I because I had misremembered the song's title.

Re: Poll: wedding day mishaps?

  • i forgot the guestbook, pen, ect.  pretty much all of the little things at home.  It is ok.

  • My BIL got really drunk and took a swing at my DH in the parking lot.  Their youngest brother had to basically tackle him.  We asked him to leave right then and there.  It really upset my DH and we left soon after that but I made him feel better later on Wink

  • My flowers were terrible and I walked waaaaaaay too fast down the aisle.  I was like, dragging my dad.  I don't really remember much about my wedding day to be honest... I wasn't drunk or anything, it was just such a looooong day but it went by so fast.
  • My DJ coordinated the company to bring a projector and DVD player for a slideshow that I spent months working on.

I had a lot of problems with the slideshow leading up to the wedding and I wanted to give up on it so many times, but I didn't. Apparently there was a miscommunication somewhere between my DJ and the projection company, they didn't show up the night of the wedding. My DJ is a very close friend of mine and he knew how hard I worked on the slideshow so he called everyone he knew and begged them to come ASAP.

When DH and I arrived at the reception the projector wasn't there yet. DJ told my H but I didn't find out until I got back from the honeymoon. When I walked into the reception I didn't even notice them setting up. So, all in all, there was a big mishap but everything seemed just fine to me, which I am so thankful for.

  • My Dad went to kiss me while giving me away, and I turned around & completely ignored him! I didn't know it until after the ceremony, then when I saw it on the video I called him to apologize!

  • There were a ton of little details no one else would notice that went wrong.

The big things people did notice were that our best man wasn't there, as his leave was cancelled when he was reassigned to Katrina relief.  And during the ceremony, there was a lot of wind, so we had trouble getting the tapers and unity candle lit, and the floral arrangments blew over at one point and a tablecloth was blown over a lit centerpiece and caught on fire during the ceremony.  That was entertaining.  Very people noticed, cause it was in the back and quickly taken care of.

  • actually my day had no mishaps at all that i know of. It was nice and relaxed and I just took hours to get ready while my mom and everyone else worried about everything.

Oh at te reception the "special songs" cd got left on when we went to do pictures, but that wasn't a big deal

  • I laught pretty much thought the everything I had to say. I think I did this so I wouldn't cry! I'm kinda weird like that. Everything else was good.
  • Our first dance music didnt play and we were standing there waiting, looking stupid on the dance floor!
    image.
  • This wasn't the day of the wedding, but earlier in the week DH's grandfather hurt his back (long story) and in the end was unable to come to the wedding, so that was the biggest thing that went wrong.

As far as little things, one of my brothers couldn't get the candles lit, my friend who was supposed to be pouring punch didn't realize when she needed to start so my dad's toast turned into just a speech, and DH accidentally flung the garter into a tree.

ETA: Oh, I forgot a couple. They were doing construction on the new Fellowship Hall (right next to the chapel) even though we were told they wouldn't be working on a Saturday. I didn't really care, but my dad went out and yelled at them, and they went home. Ha! Also, it rained, but it only rained once the reception started and stopped when we were preparing to leave.

  • It wasn't so much at the wedding, but I completely forgot to pack anything for the wedding night. I didn't have a brush or toothbrush, or even a change of clothes. The next morning I left the hotel wearing my heels and dh's tux jacket.?
  • The area where my DH family is from got a foot of snow the night before the wedding.  We ended up having about 50 no-shows so lots of empty tables at dinner.

I didn't realize that I ripped my contact after the rehearsal dinner.  I wore my glasses to get my hair done, so by the time I figured it out I didn't have time to run home and get a new one.  I had to call DH and he had to run home to get me a new one before he went to the church.  I put my new one in literally minutes before I walked down the aisle.

The MOH was kind of a bridezilla and she totally bit my head off over a couple of very small stupid details.  Then she would *** some of my other friends about me; most of them wanted to ask her to leave (I didn't find this part out until later).

My SIL forgot the instructions on how to bustle my dress, so I had to call the bridal salon to get help, which made us late to dinner.

There were a few other little things, but these were the main ones that stick out in my head today.

  • not really.

my dad noticed during the cocktail hour that one of the tables didn't have enough chairs set up at it.   He tells me this.   I pointed out my coordinator to him and said "see that girl with the clipboard?   I paid her $1,000 to make this her problem today - go tell her".

  • One of the candle lighters couldn't get her lighter to work, so they had trouble getting all of the candles lit. Then the ushers couldn't get the aisle runner to corporate, so I barely made it into the church before the bridal march ended. And then I realized that I had forgotten DH's ring in the dressing room. We just pretended that we had it and most people didn't realize it.  Oh and my MOH was so emotional that she looks hillarious in our pictures.

But all that mattered is that we ended up married at the end of the day.

  • Just minor things...my mom accidentally knocked over a candle as she was being sat, and the hurricane vase that it was in shattered. This was right before I walked down the aisle, and I wouldn't have known if the coordinator waiting to cue me hadn't said, "Oh, I think something just broke..." I was like, what?!!!
  • After telling the hotel management in detail and giving her the items the following things were left out:

I ordered 150 cupcakes that were dilvered by the bakery but some how were "lost" at the hotel.

Ordered 65 disposible cameras (turns out one per person could have had one) only 15 were put out and people were saying that they wanted to take more pictures!

The nice table lables/names (streets of San Francisco) some weren't put out and some were just tossed.

The kicker and the only one thing I really wanted was to have a golden gate bridge/cable car (Gerdelle Chocolate that we had to special order) on each plate in roateing order, were not placed on the platters like I requested. They were put out after 20 people left and placed willy-nilly on a side table. URG!

  • I put DH's ring on the wrong finger, but in my defense he gave me the wrong hand! Then he whispered "it's on the wrong hand" so I yanked it off and put it on his left hand, everyone laughed, I was beet red!

Our DJ sucked ass and I didn't love my hair and I wish I would've had the hairdresser change it, but nothing terrible. All in all it was a wonderful day!

  • I spent months planning and organizing this "donuts and coffee" table. The idea was that it would be by the door, so that people could grab a donut and coffee for the way out. The caterers put it off to the side, though, and nobody knew about it. LOTS of donuts, wasted.?

  • Nothing too crazy but my MOH sealed the demise of our friendship. She got so drunk the night before our rehearsal that she missed not only her morning flight to where we live but missed the second flight the airline put her on, leaving our friend to sit in the Raleigh airport for nearly five hours waiting for her. Then at the rehearsal party she got so drunk (again, big theme for that weekend) she nearly got kicked out for calling someone's kid the c-bomb. After we got back to my place she took sleeping pills and passed out on my couch, leaving me to do all our wedding favors (which she was supposed to bring the final candy for-she never got them) until 1am. The day of the wedding she made us late for our hair appointments, left her dirty underwear on my living room floor and locked me out of my bathroom to re-do her hair. In my pre-wedding pics I don't even have lipstick on. Once we got to the site we were waiting in my parents' van and she decided to paint her nails black and put the bottle on the floor next to my gown. Blah. She got drunk again at the reception, nearly dumping a soda down my gown and spending nearly the entire night on her Sidekick text messaging people. Sadly, I could still go on....good riddance to her.
  • After our ceremony when DH and I entered the reception, they annouced for the first time as Dr. and Mrs. Kari Last Name.... using my name instead of DH's... it was funny.

The hotel we were staying at tried to put DH and I in a room right next door to my grandmother for our wedding night... I found this out and frantically put my MOH on changing it!

  • The week before my wedding my Nana died. Because of some minor drama due to who would be reading at the funeral that some other family drama that had nothing to do with me one of my cousins and her husband did not show up. They never called us, never sent a gift, nothing. All they did was tell my cousin's sister to tell us why she wasn't there. Total LIE!

Also, the pastor at my church either didn't put the air on or didn't put it on early enough AND had all of the altar lights on so it felt like a million degrees on the altar. DH almost passed out because of lack of air moving. Also, the priest we had, who is a family friend, kept shutting off his lapel mic and we had no mic so no one heard our vows. We also were not told to kiss until the very end of the ceremony and we weren't even announced!!?

  • My wedding was in a historic home with a very sensitive fire alarm.  One of our friends put his napkin on the table to go to the bthroom, and it started to smolder on a votive.  The fire alarm went off, and we had to evacuate our wedding in the middle of the soup course, for about an hour.

The fire department came, three fire trucks, the whole nine yards.

It was great (not really).  Everyone had a great time outside though.  the caterers brought champagne and drinks, and it wasn't ALL that bad.

  • I had a beach wedding and it rained horribly. My stylist showed up right at the time the wedding was supposed to start. My MIL dress didnt fit. My husband was late because he was trying to find something for my MIL to wear so needless to say he was mad. In my wedding video there were people behind us taking camera phone pictures. Our parking permits for the beach didnt get done so we had to go to the gate and pick up people. My cake didnt turn out the way it was supposed. But overall it was great.

  • My flowers weren't ready when I got there to pick them up, luckily the florist gave us free delivery and a major upgrade (went from normal stuff to 5 bouquets full of large orchids, and small orchids for the bouts instead of the regular cheap ones I had picked)

Also, me and MH are huge LSU fans, and were going to use pre-game as our recessional.  Only problem- LSU lost their game that day!  Instead of pre-game, we had to do a last minute recessional switch!

  • Oh, and the ministers mic went out, and in the middle of our outdoor garden ceremony the air conditioning unit for the building turned on.  No one could hear anything!

  • We (the girls) got locked out of the house and ran out of champaign while waiting in the limo for my brother to show up witht he keys.  Also my Mom forgot to inform my Dad that they were dropping DH and I off at the hotel after the reception (Limo driver had a heart attack a week before and cancelled our late night drop off) and he loaded their vehical up so there was no room for us and the DJ ended up driving us to the hotel.

  • The wedding march started before we were ready, so there was a slight delay before we came out, which freaked DH out a little.

The cake didn't show up until I started down the aisle.

I have limited photos because DH wanted his friends wife to take them, and then they broke up and she deleted the rest of the pictures.

    Oy with the poodles already!

  • The morning of my wedding I called our hotel planner (where the reception was to take place) and found out he had taken the day off and the assistant would take care of everything.  I called the assistant down to the lobby, and when he showed up he said "don't worry, everything will be all set for tomorrow."  I was like "um...excuse me?? tomorrow??"

He argued with me for 5 minutes on the day of the wedding before I handed my phone to my MOH with my dad on speed dial.  My dad called the actual wedding planner and made sure everything was taken care of.

  • It was almost time for the mass... I was still at home and DH was at the church. Flowers were not there yet.... delivery guy got there late and was lost I guess... got them just minutes before ceremony!
  • It decided to downpour out of the freakin blue on my way to the wedding and it was an outdoor wedding.  We decided to postpone the wedding for ten minutes and then the sun came out from behind the clouds and you would have never guessed that it rained.  It was absolutely beautiful after that.  The only thing I forgot about the wedding was my garter...oops, but not a biggie.

  • My dress. I found the one... but it was discontinued. So I could buy the one off the rack for half off. Which was great, but it was about 6 sizes too big. The ladies at the store took a look and assured me they could alter it just fine and fix all of the beads that were falling off from it being tried on.

About 6 mos. before the wedding, I got a letter from the dress store saying they were going out of business. (I received this about a week after getting a letter from my florist saying the same thing...) They enclosed the business card of a seamstress they recommended.

So I met with this lady, and she was all.. "I don't know if I'm going to be able to make this look good...". She works out of her house. Her cat, dog and bird all snuck into the room at some point when I was there. The bird seriously almost got me while wearing my dress. Anyway, she gets the dress to fit me decently enough.

The day of the wedding, the zipper broke. Broke. We called the seamstress, and she was like "Oh no! That's too bad....." biatch.

So my MIL and SIL stitched me into my dress. I was holding my dress up and beads kept falling off in my hands. My aunt gave DH a seam ripper during the reception and said "You may want this for later!"

  • Well let's start with the main things Big Smile First off, the Pope died on my wedding day. Second, there was a hurricane. Those were the majors...

The minor things were, no candle's for the $120 each candelabras (there were 20!!!), the florist never went to the church to bring the flowers and boutineers for the men, so we had to wait for them to come back from the reception hall (he was 1/2 way through the 1hr drive!) to start the wedding, and my blusher part of my veil kept falling in my face the ENTIRE ceremony. But I did have a blast... somehow my control freak stayed in check the whole day!

Oh, and I also forgot my bag for the wedding night and day after too!!! My hubby didn't mind my birthday suit but it was weird to wear my wedding dress out the next morning... a new version of the walk of shame lol

  • It POURED rain...

The main highway into and out of the Colorado town in which I'm from and was married was shut down due to a major accident, trapping my  FI's family on the other side.  They called ME to tell me ('cause that's what every bride wants to hear - half her wedding party and her future in-laws can't make it).  I told someone to drive up to where the road was shut, everyone else could walk to them and they could drive back.  My FI's mother yelled at me because she thought that was a horrible idea.  I hung up on her.

    They eventually made it.

I got a massage two days before the wedding and broke out in a horrible rash/hives all over my back from the lotion.  Had to get on emergency antibiotics and cover everything up with make up, but it was still there and noticeable.

We got the wrong cake.  Totally wrong and it was this huge Cinderella cake that had glitter all over it.

My mom was really emotional and started hounding me about getting everyone from cocktail hour down to dinner.. I was happily socializing and told her to chill out and everything would be fine and she called me a ***.  Ha!

My FI's mom came UP TO OUR ROOM after the reception to get her things that had been stored there and proceeded to stand there and talk to us for 30 minutes until FI's twin brother came and got her.

I could go on and on...

OH!  The best part?  $80,000 later - we got divorced 2 years later.
