Passover Dilema-anyone else??

Hi guys,

?? ?Wednesday night is Passover and typically (for those who aren't Jewish) you are supposed to drink 6 glasses of wine. I've never really drank all 6 during the sedar (dinner service) but I'll be with my whole family and only my parents know of my pregnancy. Just wondering how others are going to deal with not drinking the wine and not giving away your pregnancy before it's time!

?? ?My mom and I said we'll sneak some grape juice in my cup and I'll just sip on that! Covert operations are fun.

Oh--and speaking of passover I made some delicious chocolate pecan toffee matzah. I have the recipe if anyone wants it. Yummy and easy!?

Re: Passover Dilema-anyone else??

  • I always just sip one glass anyway, the wine is too sweet for me. Can you pour the wine into pitchers and keep your grape juice one next to you? If you do that sit next to your mom so she can help you guard it. LOL

  • Grape juice for me, which I am really excited about.  For some reason, I have been craving sweet fruity things like gummy fruit snacks and juice.  All of my immediate family is privy to the pregnancy so I don't have to worry about sneaking.
  • You could also offer up your glass for Elijah.
  • Good call Ali,

?? ? Elijah's cup will definitely be by me. How far along are you??

  • I think the grape juice idea sounds like it will work, and I think the pp's idea to sit near Mom is also a good idea.  If someone notices, you could try and pull the "I'm on a strict diet" card?  Good luck with your secret mission!!

  • I'm 9 weeks.  We told our families (not friends or work) after our first ultrasound at 6 weeks.  It was just easier for us to be up front about it.  If, god forbid, something happens to the pregnancy, it will be better to have our families' support anyway rather than them hounding us about when are we going to have kids.  Have fun at seder!  I can't wait for my mom's chopped liver.  Bring on the iron!
  • I would take some fake sips or try to sneak some grape juice.  You could pretend to be on meds for an injury or infection too (Oh I'm still taking vicodin since I had that dental work done--no wine for me!)

  • Hi. I am Jewish and for the Seder at my parents house I requested the Kedem Grape Juice (its Kosher) for the Seder.

To be honest, my parents don't know that I am pregnant yet, we are going to tell them at the Seder...but I stopped drinking as soon as I got a BFP and I just told my parents that I haven't been drinking any "adult beverages" lately because the docs are playing with my thyroid meds. A little white lie, but oh well.

You should be okay with the Kedem Grape Juice stuff.  It looks like its Manachevitz.

    Happy Passover!Big Smile

  • You could try mixing a tiny bit of seltzer water into it and make it sparkling.  If I were in your position, I would personally drink the juice openly and just say that I'd had a headache all day and didn't want the wine to make it worse.  I have done that before (pre-pregnancy, when it was the truth), and no one questioned it, because no could prove that it was or wasn't true. L'chaim!
