***First of all, I apologize if this question has been asked already today. I am having the day from heII and I don't have time to read through the posts.***
I failed my 1 hour (my score was 147 and she said they like it to be under 140). Did they tell you to limit carbs and sugars leading up to the 3 hour test (before the fasting)? The nurse told me to and I am a vegetarian so this will be very difficult for me.
TIA
Re: Question for those who failed the 1HR
I did, mostly just because I really didn't want to fail the 3 hr. My SIL did and she had to keep checking her sugar levels. She never did have a problem though. I mainly just cut out stuff that was obviously full of sugar (certain cereals, ice cream, etc).
My score was 142 and they wanted me under 135, so it sounds like you're pretty much in the same boat as I was. Most people will pass the 3 hr, so good luck. It's not the most horrible thing in the world!
If you don't mind fake meat, I would highly recommend eating those for a day or so prior (however long you should be cutting back on carbs). Very high protein, but not terrible carb-wise. Just check labels, I'm sure you can find some that are pretty low in carbs and sugars. I ate the Boca vegan nuggets the day of my 1-hour, in addition to cutting back on carbs wherever else I could (no pasta, little fruit, etc). Try to avoid dairy too, so maybe use soy milk and such those days as well. Not sure if that helped me pass, but I did, so I give the advice to you just in case.?
I totally understand the difficulty though. I was terrified I'd fail my tests and have to go on the vegan GD diet. I can't even imagine how rough that would be

I failed the 1-hour with a 146. I then went on to fail the 3-hour, as well. For the 3-hour, you have to fast 8-10 hours before the test. Eat normally, otherwise, leading up the fasting period. Don't do anything that will alter your sugar levels. You want to know if you have GD, or not. Good luck!
Hi -
I just went through this last week. I failed the 1 hr and my dr. gave me a diet plan to follow for THREE days before I came in for the 3 hr test. It was WAY too much food for me and I couldn't understand why they diet plan included so much sugar and so many carbs!? I didn't follow it to a "T" mainly because I have seen this question asked on these boards before and I found that most people were only asked to fast 12 hours before the test. I was also told to fast. The diet they asked me to follow for 3 days prior to the test included 3 meals with 3 snacks. The meals were crazy - to me anyway. I have been so uncomfortable when I eat (short torso and feel like I have ZERO space in my abdomen - I get full on two bites of anything). The diet was too much - for example - for breakfast - an egg, a serving of cereal, 1-2 pieces of toast, with butter and jelly, a serving of juice or a piece of fruit and a TB of sugar? I have no idea if they expected me to eat this sugar plain or mix it with something. A snack was more fruit with some cheese and a glass of milk. Lunch was soup, salad, a meat serving, milk, a side of fruit and a side of a starch such as pasta, a potato, etc. and a dessert. The other meals and snacks were the same! That's a lot of food IMO.
Needless to say - I didn't follow the diet. I couldn't understand why I had to alter my diet to test something that is happening to me when I eat my normal diet??? I didn't pass the 3 hour test.
I've been diagnosed with GD, I don't need insulin, but I can't eat sweets and my carbs are restricted. My diet should consist of veggies and lean protein and small amounts of carbs. Its not much fun for a bread lover - but I only have 10 more weeks to go. I can handle it. I feel much better already.
