Failed induction ended in c-section

I was scheduled for an induction on Friday, April 3rd at 6pm.  Immediately, we were taken back to a room in labor and delivery (which I'm told is rare even for a scheduled induction so it must not have been very busy).  They ran some blood tests and by 6:30pm I was started on Pitocin.  I was also given a balloon catheter which was actually pretty painful going in.

By 8pm I was having contractions every 2-3 minutes and they increased the Pitocin.  They weren't very painful though and felt a lot like menstrual cramps.  It was at this point I requested pain medicine and was given Nubain almost right away.  I really didn't care for the Nubain though.  It made me feel drunk and DH couldn't understand anything I was saying.  It really didn't even take the edge off the contractions.  Almost immediately I started feeling funny and it lasted about an hour.

At 9:30, the doctor removed the balloon catheter and broke my water.  The breaking of the water felt weird, but didn't hurt.  I was kind of grossed out by the fact they did it on the bed even though there was a bunch of towels under me.  The catheter came out easily and didn't hurt.  I was 4cm.

After they broke my water and upped my Pitocin again, the contractions started getting a lot stronger.  I requested an epidural by 10pm.  I didn't get the epidural until 11:30 though because there was an emergency c-section in progress.  The contractions were getting pretty strong by this point and coming every minute and a half.  Getting the epidural didn't really hurt at all, but it felt weird.  I thought DH was going to pass out though and the doctor noticed and made him take a seat and not watch the needle.  The site where I got the epidural was kind of uncomfortable, but I was no longer feeling any pain.

Hours passed with no more progress.  At 8am, the doctor began to discuss the option of a c-section, but wanted to give it a couple more hours.  At 10am, the doctor tried to manually stretch my cervix.  At this point she noticed that there was a bulge on the top of the baby's head.

At 11am, she checked me again and I was still at 4cm.  They started prepping me for the c-section.  They used my epidural to give me stronger pain medication.  I hated not being able to move my legs.  The pain medicine started giving me the shakes and I had them the entire time until it wore off.  They took me into the OR to get prepped.  It seemed to take hours, but really it was probably more like 10 minutes.  Once I was prepped they let my husband in.  I don't know if it was the stress or the hormones or what, but as soon as he came in and sat by my side I started bawling for no reason.  Poor Daryl didn't really know what to do and I could tell he was really worried about me.  They started the procedure and I kept talking to my husband to try to get my mind off of what was going on.  They kept saying I'd feel lots of pressure and I guess I did, but it wasn't very strong at all.

At 11:27am, Lilliana was born.  She was screaming and I was so relieved.  They ran past me with her and I only got to see a glimpse.  Daryl left my side to cut the umbilical cord.  At this point, I stopped crying at least.  I felt so much better.  I wasn't really happy that I couldn't watch them clean her off and stuff.  The doctor was great and kept telling me what they were doing with her and how she was.  Daryl came back by my side while they finished up with her.  When they were done cleaning her off and they were still stitching me up, they brought Lilliana over and Daryl got to hold her.  I couldn't really see her though and so they put her kind of oddly on my chest, but I was so glad for those few minutes.  Sometime in there one of the doctors almost ripped my nose off though because he had got caught on my oxygen face thing.

When they were done, they took Lilliana to the nursery to get bathed and run tests and what not.  This was my least favorite part of the c-section; not being able to be with the baby right away.  While they took her to the nursery, they took me to a recovery room.  Daryl decided to stay with me.  Once I was in recovery and everything was fine, I just had to wait until I could bend my knees.  I couldn't even wiggle my toes at that point.  Daryl went up to see Lilliana in the nursery for a little bit.  My shaking started to go down and it was about 3 hours later that I was taken to my post-partum room.  When I got up there my face started itching like crazy from the morphine and I could hardly keep my eyes open.  They gave me some Benedryl and ran some more tests.  I was on Pitocin again and having contractions, but they didn't hurt too bad. The incision site was pretty sore though.  It was very painful to move from one bed to the other.

Finally, they brought in Lilliana at 4pm.  We could not get her to stay awake though.  I tried bf, but she kept falling asleep.  I was very frustrated.  Eventually the nurse told us she had to take a bottle.  She only took 1/2 an oz though.

I kept her in the room and at 6pm she was showing signs of hunger.  I tried to bf again and she latched on first try.  She was on 15 minutes on one side and 10 minutes on the other.  Both times she latched on right away.  I felt such a relief because I was really afraid I wouldn't be able to bf.

My parents had came down and saw her in the nursery, but they left while I was in recovery.  I was really glad to have the evening just the three of us and we decided upon no visitors until tomorrow.  Daryl is doing really great with her and I really liked us being able to bond as a family.

It's about 3am now and I can't sleep.  I hurt pretty bad at the incision site if I move, but I also haven't had any pain meds in a while either.  I haven't been able to get out of bed yet, but I was able to get food a couple hours ago.  BF is going pretty well right now and she's nursing every 3-4 hours.  She's really sleepy though and that had been causing some trouble.
