Re: do you have a cleaning lady?

  • We have one that comes every other week.  I pay her $90 each time.  She has 2 helpers most of the time and it takes her about 3 hours.  I make sure that the house is picked up so that she can actually clean.  She cleans the kitchen (empties dishwasher, puts anything that's in the sink in the dishwasher, wipes counters, cleans out microwave), bathrooms (shower/tub, toilets, sinks, mirrors), dusts and vacuums the entire house, and cleans all of our hardwood floors with the cleaner and mop thing.  If I put the sheets in the washer in the morning, she'll throw them in the dryer when she gets there and then put them on the bed.

She has a key to our house so she always comes when I'm at work.  I like that much better because then I don't have to worry about being in her way.

  • Mine comes on Saturdays and is at our house from 9-2 (sometimes 3). If I were you I wouldn't quote a price until you see the house though that way you don't short change yourself. When I was looking for a cleaning lady the first lady that came to our house was only able to come every other week and wanted $75. Our lady comes every Saturday and gets $100. And I'll give it to her in a heartbeat too because she's awesome! She goes above and beyond what I expected for a cleaning lady. Oh and we have a golden retriever that sheds a ton so that might factor into her price. Just so you know we have a 3 bedroom 2 bath home that is about 2000sq ft, if that helps you judge how much per sq ft, and we live in South Florida so things might just cost a lot more down here compared to where you live.
  • hell yes I do!

We go through Molly Maids because DH wanted someone licensed, bonded and insured in case something happened to them in our home.

They are $95 each time, and they come every other week.  There are two ladies there and I can't imagine they are there longer than 90 minutes.

They charged me $200 to get the house "ready" for their first cleaning.

agree with pp - I got a house evaluation by the owner who decided how much our house would be based on size, number of knick knacks, pets, etc.

  • we have someone come every other week. ?We have a 4 bedroom/2 bathroom house and its about 2300 sq foot.. ?We pay $90. ?She doesn't do dishes or empty our dishwasher. ?I can't imagine someone taking 5 hours to clean. ?Does your cleaning person do laundry and extra stuff?

Mine will sometimes wash the rugs that are in the bathroom. She'll fold up laundry that might still be in the dryer from when I left it washing in the morning. Usually I'm washing sheets in the morning, so that's easier to fold up. One time she seriously went through my linen closet and straightened it up, it was a HUGE mess before that, now its all pretty. She is extremely detailed. She dusts in areas that I haven't dusted since we moved into the house (like on top of our cabinets, on top of our entertainment center, shoot our fans!!!!). She moves all of the couches out of the way and all of the toys out of the way too before she cleans the floors. She even polishes the legs on our dining room table! She even cleans the inside of our microwave and oven oh and even our tiny toaster oven I've noticed is cleaner than if I had done it myself. So yeah she does extra stuff. I was surprised that she would be there for 5 hours, I'll never get rid of her because of her extreme attention to detail.

    Haha NEVER!!

  • we did until last fall - she got really sick and had to have surgery so was going to be gone a few wks and i got used to doing stuff. we are going to start up again this summer i think. she it was $75 and she was here from about 8am-noon. it was glorious. i love her. she has been cleaning for our family (my grandparents when they were alive, my parents still, and us) for about 12-13 years. now, she comes over still when i need a deep clean. when i was on vaca she came over and cleaned so i came back to a nice house. she still has a key so i never have to worry about letting her in/out.
  • I am the cleaning lady:) ?What I do when I start a new house is give them an estimate but tell them that it wont be set in stone until after I clean it once. Sometimes a house is going to take you longer than you think it will! I have some houses that I do laundry for while I am there cleaning so I charge more for that. It is a great way to bring in a little extra money and still get to be home with my son most days.?
