Talk to me about crib mattresses

DH and I need to pick a crib mattress.  I've heard that soft is not better when it comes to babies.  So, tell me what mattress you ordered.  And why.

Thanks ladies!

Look for soemthing that has at least 150 coils, then it will be firm enough.

I have not purchased one yet, but I read in Baby Bargains (Colgate Foam was the number one pick) that very firm foam mattresses are your best bet.  They are much lighter and it makes it easier to change the sheets at night, more affordable and just as durable.  You definitely need to get a firm mattress though!

  • We got the Sealy Baby Soft Premium because it was recommended in Baby Bargains.  It looks like the cheaper version is recommended in the latest version though.  I really wanted to get the Colgate Classica, but my crib had online reviews that said people had issues with mattresses being too large for the crib so I wanted to buy from a store so I could return if I needed to.

  • We're getting a Naturepedic from Target. I wanted something organic/free of chemicals and safe and this one seems to fit the bill.

  • We ordered the Colgate Classica 3. It's anti bacterial and has a firm side and a softer side to use with the toddler bed.

We ordered it for $134.99 total from Great Beginnings online. They shipped it right away, we ordered March 31 and it was delivered April 3. Very happy with their customer service. Someone gave a discount code the other day, but I can't find it right now. It saved us $15. I'll keep looking just in case you are interested.

  • We ordered the Sealy Baby Soft Premium mattress.  It actually came free from BRU w/ our furniture purchase.  My research determined that it was a good mattress and safe.
  • We got a 2-in-1 Kolcraft mattress.  Foam on one side & coils on the other.  Water-proof & stain resistant.
