Babies on the Brain

Do you have life insurance?

My h and I had the typical policy that you get from your employer when we got married, but after I got pregnant and realized what dire straits the other would be in should the other die, we got LI from an independent co.

I am very thankful for this decision after reading the OP.

I do not want him to die (nor he wants me to), however, reality is what it is and now we know that Leila will at least have some financial security. Thank God.

Re: Do you have life insurance?

  • Yes, DH and I both have a policy.  After reading matt logelin's blog I'm even more glad that we have it.  If something were to happen to either of us then it's nice to know that we can be assured the other is taken care of.  For $70 a month the peace of mind if worth it.

  • We both have Life Insurance as well. It was one of the first big "items" we bought after getting married.

Another thing to think about is having a living will. Who will raise your DD or DS if (*gasp*) both of you are killed in a car accident or something else. I know that was morbid, but you really do need to think of these things.

  • A will is next on our agenda.

  • Yes we both do.  Its not a lot of money but its enough.  We are looking to get one through another agency besides my work.
Not sure what direction we are headed. Either way, I am up for the ride.
  • I have minimal coverage that I have had my whole life, enough to cover a funeral and DH has coverage through his work. We will both be investing in more once we have children, until then we don't feel that it is necessary as either of us could living comfortably without the other's salary.

  • yes, we both do. It's enough that it would cover a few years of living expenses, pay off the mortgage and pay for our future children's education but not so much that we'd be set for life or anything.
  • I have it only through my work right now, but we will be getting it after we get through the christening and get his paperwork settled with DHS.  We are going to get the life insurance and wills done at the same time.

We both have supplemental through our employers, enough to pay off all our bills so the other won't have to work as long or hard if we pass away.

We need to get independent insurance in case we lose our jobs, but i want to lose weight first.

do what you need to get the best rating, cause I got dinged for having a knee surgery within five years cause I got hit by a car. Now, if Ihad waited another 2 years to get the policy, I might have had to pay a little less.

  • Yes we both have seperate life insurance policies. Not sure about our coverage though after reading these posts. My policy is for $75 and DH for $150 as he brings home more than I do currently. The money would be enough to help pay pills for many months--but not pay off mortage. We might consider increasing policies when I get KU. hmmm......

  • I have supplemental life at 6 x my annual salary and I have DH covered at $100,000 which is the max that you can do for spouses right now.  We have talked about independant life insurance but need to lose weight first too!

You can still get better rates by having an independent broker shop around for you. Wait until you are in good health; good weight for your height, non-smoker, minimal prescription meds, etc. You can even shop around after you've already gotten a policy that is at a lower rate due to some health "issue". I work for an insurance broker and we do this all the time usually saving our clients money while still getting the same death benefit.
