GPS recs needed

we're finally joining the 21st century and getting a navigation system. I know there are a few different manufacturers, Tom Tom, Garmin etc. haven't researched at all but we're looking for a middle of the road model (don't need crazy bells and whistles but don't want the bare bones models either) thanks!

Re: GPS recs needed

  • H has a Garmin Nuvi and loves it.  He drives around all day for work, so it's a Godsend.  It's really easy to use.  I could give a crap about the navigation aspect of it -- I think it's cool because you can upload pictures to it and play a slideshow of your kids!

  • i love my garmin.  whatever you get though, get text-to-speech capability.  it's where the gps will say "turn on snake street in xxx feet" instead of saying "turn in xxx feet."  makes a huge difference.
  • I have one of the cheper Garmin's.   I like it a lot.  It's really helpful and has got me to lots of rural towns....that being said.  It can't always find the farm roads.  I love that you can seach for place to eat close by or cafes, etc

  • Us and our IL's both have a Delphi.  I really like it.  But you can't go wrong with a Garmin of any type.  DH has a handheld Garmin and loves it.

  • We have this one got it on black friday from walmart for $100.  We love it.  DH goes on alot of trips for work to differant states and takes this with him so he can find places to eat and how to get around the towns he is in.  I also have one for my car and use it all the time.  I get lost alot trying to find new parks in town with map quest and this helps alot.
