Babies: 9 - 12 Months

DS fell off of our bed this morning

I literally turned my back for seconds to pull my pants up - we were getting ready for church. ?DH was in the shower. ?DS recently started crawling so I should have known better, I've been beating myself up over it all day. ?He landed on his face from our pretty high bed onto hardwood floors. ?He had a CT Scan and it came back normal - now I'm worried about the radiation. ?

I get the terrible mom of the day award:( ??

Re: DS fell off of our bed this morning

  • Oh, I'm sorry!  They are so quick now...so hard to keep an eye on every second.  Glad to hear everything is ok.
  • Loading the player...
  • accidents happen.  thankfully, he's ok.  DD fell off the bed last wk.  luckily she hit some cushions that were on the floor and we have hardwood too.

  • Awww, at this point, I'm sure it's harder on you than it is on him. I'm glad he's okay. And think of it this way... something like that is BOUND to happen at some point... so now you've got it out of the way. :)

    wtf?

  • This post made my DH feel so much better hehe! He was sitting on the edge of the bed yesterday and I put DD on the bed with him and I walked out and she crawled off the end of the bed. He felt so horrible and was so upset she has a scratch on her forehead and eye. I just kept telling him what I will tell you. Accidents happen even if you try hard to prevent them.

SBear is trying to make someone feel better. Accidents are bound to happen, no matter how careful you are. Sometimes it takes an accident to make you fully aware of just how careful you have to be/ how quickly something can happen.

Then again its always fun to jump all over someone who has empathy.

  • empathy is "i am sorry that happened. accidents happen and I am glad he is okay"

stupidity is "well, all kids fall off the bed at some point - so at least its over with"

falling off the bed is not an accident - it is a poor choice no matter how you look at it.

  • I'm sorry but I don't follow your logic.

She stated "something like this is bound to happen"....  as in an accident is bound to happen at some point, or you're bound to make a mistake that will make you feel like a bad parent.

Where that equals her stating falling off the bed at some point is bound to happen I just don't get...

you really have to twist her words to come up with your argument. Never did she say that all kids are bound to fall of the bed nor did she imply it. And to state that a parent is bound to run into a situation where an ACCIDENT happens and they'll feel bad about not doing more to avoid it makes perfect sense to me.

I don't know SBear but if you ask her what she meant in her post I'm 100% positive its not how you're reading it.

  • Poor little guy!  I know you feel way more horrible about it then you should, accidents do happen, you don't realize how fast they can get into something or move until "ouch" they do.  I'm sure you're way more hurt, than DC is, you'll probably remember it for always and DC has already forgotten it.  The one time my DS fell over he scraped his forehead on the carpet "the carpet" I figured he just bumped it on the carpet like he did often as he was learning to crawl, when I saw blood I started bawling rushed him to the doctor I couldn't stop tearing up every time I looked at his forehead.  The doctor said he bumped his head "babies do that" I told him I know they do that he bumps his head while trying to crawl but this time it was bleeding and babies shouldn't bleed from bumping their foreheads on the carpet, and of course the doctor looked at me like I'm some neurotic overprotective mother.  Just remember the lesson you've learned which I'm sure you'll never forget, even if you're turning around quick as lightning make sure baby is "secured".  This morning I was in the bathroom and DH was walking out the door and I asked where DS is, he says on the floor. I told him to put him in the jumpy or PnP, I was only going to be a minute but you just never know with the exploring little munchkins.

no i dont see where a child falling off the bed is an accident. it is COMMON SENSE not to put a baby on a bed. especially a baby over 6 months old. she went to put her pants on - and thought to herself "hmm ill put DC on the bed bc the floor is obviously a bad decision". there is no excuse for "accidents" like that. i dont think its a "rite of passage" to do something stupid and then learn from it when it takes 1 simple second to be aware.

  • Sure am glad you are the perfect parent!

yes. obviously. if by perfect you mean "wouldn't put a baby that can move on a bed". then yes. i am perfect.

  • you don't have to make the poor girl feel bad, she obviously feels bad enough.?
  • well i think its damned ridiculous that people are saying "oh its okay - it happens to everyone!"
  • No one is perfect & something like that could happen to any of us. Don't be hard on yourself! (Don't listen to the judgmentals out there)

Exactly. Sorry to those who misunderstood... didn't mean to offend anyone's parenting sensibilities. :) And to the OP, hope both you and your little one are feeling better!
