Daybed ok for a boy??

I've seen some convertible cribs that convert to daybeds before toddler bed.  My mom thought if I had a boy (won't know sex for another 2 months) that I shouldn't have a day bed...that they were just for girls.

I assumed it was for either sex since they would be so young.  But I don't know....  Any thoughts??

  • I guess I've never thought of a daybed as gender specific, unless you one of those really scrolly metal ones, but I'm sure thats not what you had in mind!  I think it would be fine for a young child.

  • We have one of the convertible cribs & will put our LO in the daybed/toddler bed conversion as a transition when we first take him.her out of the crib, before ready for a double bed, I am thinking from 2ish-4ish, I don't think that is a big deal for a boy. Our room will be gender nuetral until he or she moves to the big room when we will redecorate & move LO to a double bed.

  • As long as it is not super feminine in style (scrolls, delicate rails, etc.) I think it would be fine for a boy. Especially if it isn't white.

  • There is nothing inherently girly about  a daybed.  Although, I'm not sure I appreciate the difference between the daybed and the toddler bed (except for the rail)--it's not like the daybed is any bigger than the toddler bed.  So although my crib also converts to a daybed, I'm skipping the daybed portion--when DS is too big for the toddler bed, I'll go straight to the full size.
  • Thank you all for your help!!  I truly appreciate it :)
