My DD will be 2 in June and while I've stayed home with her since birth I think its time to get her out and involved with other kids. We've tried play groups, but she is at a stage right now where she is rather "difficult" whenever I am around. If I am present she takes no interest in other children, just pushing my buttons to get a reaction! I would like to find a place where she can go twice a week to get the interaction and maybe some structure/discipline from someone other than me.
It is VERY important that she be learning, not just put in a room with a few other kids and a TV on. I would also prefer somewhere where kids are NOT grouped simply by age, she has hit all of her milestones early and would like to keep her challanged.
I've heard good things about Montessori schools/daycare, anyone know of anywhere else? I am right by Mt Clemens General, but wouldn't have a problem traveling (although I would prefer to go more north than south)
Thanks!
Re: Learning based daycare in Macomb County?
There is a montessori school in that neighborhood that Mt Clemens General is in. If you prefer to go north there is also one on Romeo Plank, north of 19 mile rd too.
Yup, I have several family members and close friends whose kids have gone all the way through the montessori school there, I believe it used be called "Stepping Stones." Not sure if that's still the case, but they definately turned out some SMART and well rounded kids.
On the other hand, Utica schools has a great daycare/preschool program called "First Playmates." I taught there for years as I was going through college to be a teacher. They historically move kids up through the rooms when they meet milestones, not by age. I have always been impressed with the standard of care there, and because of my time there, I would be hard pressed to send my kids to any other "institutional" child care--they have set the bar too high! That said, the last time I was there was probably five years ago, to visit some friends...however, it's still run by the same district, and I would assume that the same set of protocols are most likely in place, unless they have been improved upon.
