constipated baby = unhappy baby

So DD has been getting constipated more and more recently. Up to 3 days no BM's

What have you used/ tried to get your LO to go.

Prune juice is a no go. Too much gas = even more pissed baby. FYI both DH and I have issues with juices making us gassy so it must be a family thing.. LOL

My mom told me to lube my pinkie and stick up there but I have no intention of doing that unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. blugh...

    You could try massaging her tummy (top to bottom and clockwise). A mom in a baby and me class I took suggested tickling the baby's bottom with parsley instead of sticking a thermometer (or pinkie) in there. Massaging usually works for us.

    1 teaspoon of karo syrup is what my pedi recommends with two ounces of water and bicycle their legs

    How old is your little one?  I know it may not sound like a sound suggestion, but water helps a lot.  If your baby is old enough for solid foods, then I would recommend giving the baby beans, apricots, plums, and high fiber foods like that.

    Are you sure it's constipation? Is the poop normal consistency or more firm? Firm would indicate constipation but normal might just mean your LO goes less often. Our DS went from 5x/day to once every 2-4 days (last time it was actually 6 days!!) and our pedi said both ae normal if consistency is normal. I do think it makes DS a bit uncomfortable, though. We tried the rectal thermometer trick and it did nothing..

    I had a constipated 4 week old this past week and talked to his pediatrician. She did not want him to take anything that he has to digest. If anything, she recommended the infant glycerin suppositories that you can purchase at the drug store. I picked some up and when I got home, he finally had a bowel movement so I'm keeping them on hand. Good luck.
