Why do you have to stop BF?? I cut out dairy and soy from my diet and continued to BF. It was never recommended to stop.

Ditto.  Why in the world would you stop BF'ing?  I cut out all dairy and soy.  It's been 2 weeks and I'm just now noticing consistent mustardy stools and not that horrible green mucousy with blood.

Don't stop BF'ing.  Everything will be ok.

Ditto two previous posters no dairy and no spicy foods for me due to bloody stools!  But we are still breast feeding.

  • I am dairy free (haven't found soy to be a problem) for 2 weeks now. I still continue to BF. It is hard, but you can do it. Cassandra set up a blog for moms having to cut out dairy/soy. It has some good links on it too. Check it out : https://www.mspimamas.blogspot.com/
  • Flame away but I couldn't keep up with BFing after we had the bloody stools and were diagnosed with a milk protein allergy.  I was having trouble BFing as it was, and was actually EPing since DS couldn't latch.  I couldn't fathom the thought of eliminating dairy and soy and continuing to EP.  So now he takes Similac Alimentum and it's working fine.  Good luck.
