What do you think of this gadget I'd like to try? After being in a haze for the first few months after my D was born due to lack of consistent sleep, I'd quickly forget which side I last nursed her on even though I was wearing the pin on the bra. I would fail to unlock the pin and transfer it to the other side.
My ped. would ask how many times has she pooped and I would try to estimate a decent number. Throw in meds into the mix every 6 hours and all these times would be thrown off. Granted I had begun to write these down after given the chart in the hospital... but once that was filled, I failed to find a suitable notepad to continue.
So.... would this help me? And can you record data for transfering to hardcopy (probably not....but I needed to ask)?
Re: Itzbeen reviews... worth the 25 bucks?
I think it is really stupid.
Pen and paper works just fine.
I copied the form we had to keep track on at the hospital and just made a mark in the block next to the time/side she was fed and when she was changed. I made copies so I had a blank one every day.
It won't help with tracking poops. I have one and I did realllllly like it. Many people will say it's stupid though. It's one of those things you either love or hate it.
Definitely is great if you are nursing. I still use mine and DD is almost 6 months. Now I only use it to time how long her naps are. I also use the clock feature when I'm in her room since there is no clock in there and I don't wear a watch.
My first one didn't work so DH took it back and got a new one. My friend loved it and bought one for our other friend as a shower gift... I'll have to ask her if she loves it too.
so not worth it. We used a small moleskine notebook.
For one thing, the itzbeen does NOT keep track of everythign. It just knows how long it's been since you changed a diaper. It doesn't know how many diapers you changed today or how many times baby ate or any of that.
I agree that you definitely need to write stuff down. We kept the notebook for about a month, and I don't know how else we would have known what was going on. It was esp. good for us because he had weight gain problems in the first 2-3 weeks, so the pedi was really wanting to know about pees and poops and how often/how much he ate.
I agree with this, although we did get one but ended up taking it back. The pen/paper was easier for us (I also made copies of a log I got in a bf class).?
I agree! I loved mine and still use it. It's better than trying to rely on memory or keeping up with a pen and paper! What a waste. After the first couple of weeks you don't need the records of how often they eat, poop, pee, etc. so it is a nice option to be able to push a button when you start feeding DC and have it record when they last ate or whatever else you want to use the 4 or 5 timers for. I use it to time naps, time between feedings, and medicine when she is taking it. I also enjoyed the BF button in the earlier days when I was feeding ALL the time. It was very helpful in the middle of the night and I even use it as a nightlight sometime so that I can see what I am doing w/o waking DD.
I love mine. I made a post earlier about how it feel in the sink and stopped working. But it is now!
I like that I don't have to rely on my memory of when I fed DS last. I use the extra button for pumping because I EP.
ditto. i keep track on a notepad and keep the time on a stop watch. We just track date, time, time fed on each breast, wet/poopy diapers, and if he spit up/vomited. works great and we're able to refer back for the pedi.
I love mine. Granted, it doesn't store data for counting diapers and feedings, but after the first week home this shouldn't be necessary unless there are specific issues (weight gain, etc.). It's great for keeping DH and I on the same page about last diaper change, last feed, etc. My concept of time was so screwed up this first month and my memory so bad that I need everything there all in one place. It's great to wake up in the middle of the night and at a glance see how long it's been since the last feeding- it's backlit and has a small nightlight, so no need to turn on a light for a feeding.
My mom loved it so much she sent one to a friend's daughter who just brought home a premie that has to be woken up for feedings- she loves it. You can set an alarm to go off to remind you (ie if you haven't reset the feeding button and it hits 3 hours it will go off.)
For $25 buck you really can't go wrong- I plan to include it now as part of shower gifts.
I even used mine to time contractions- a lifesaver.
