Tylenol and immunizations

When did you give Tylenol when your DC received their shots?  Before the appt, right after, or only if they had a fever?

Re: Tylenol and immunizations

  • I always do it after we get home from the doctors, that way it last a little longer.

  • Our pedi had us give her some right before the shots (in the exam room).  That was for the first time.  The second time, we gave her some right after the shots.  The third time, she didn't even need any.
  • I gave it to DD right in the doctor's office after they were done.  Then I gave it to her 2 or 3 more times that evening/night.  She seemed fine after that, other than a little extra sleepy - she went 6 hours w/o waking up!

  • I waited to see if DD was cranky at any time after shots.  I didn't want to give her any medicine unless she needed it.  She was not at all affected by the shots, so I didn't give her any.
  • They actually gave me a sample size of tylenol and had me give it to him either right before or right after the shots.  I also nursed him immediately after the shots to help calm him down.

Good luck today, I think I cried more than he did !!!

Also let me know how everything goes, if they let you see a dr or at least answer all your questions.

  • Thanks you!  He did pretty well.  He cried more when he was hungry than when he got the shots.  It was after he calmed down that was the scary part.  He got REALLY pale.  We asked the nurse about it so they had us wait until his coloring came back some.  Hopefully he won't have many s/e.
