cotton bloomers as diaper covers?

Hi there

I'm pretty sure I'd like to cloth diaper with a mix of pre folds and AIO's. My question is... I have a bunch of cotton bloomers and I'm wondering if they could be used as diaper covers instead of buying so many new covers. They are not waterproof, but they seems like they would hold the prefold in place very well, and I could change the diaper when it gets wet. Does anyone do this??

I'm planning on getting some waterproof covers, but wonder if I could, in part, use the cotton bloomers as well.?

    It will soak through way to quickly, IMO.

    Sorry to say, but I don't think it would work that well. The nice thing about covers is that you don't have to wash them every time. I think with cotton, you would have to because it would get really wet. I guess it could work if you didn't mind washing them and you were just going to be hanging around the house, but I think you could just use a plain prefold with no bloomers if you wanted to do that.

    Thanks... that's a very good point... I would have to do more laundry! How many times on average can the regular diaper covers be used before washing?

    if you want cheap covers look into the dappi nylon ones, you can buy them online.  not very cute but they work well.

    We currently have 4 diapers, and just put two in the wash each time.  You don't really need to wash them unless they've gotten poop on them, they've gotten REALLY wet, or they seem a bit whiffy,

    I reuse my covers a couple times before I throw them in the wash unless they really stink or got pooped on.  I only have three covers though.
