Low Progesterone Level

Afternoon ladies!  My DH and I have been TTC since December 2007.  We recently started seeing a RE (February 20) - ovarian cysts inside/outside of both ovaries, as well as fibroids.  This morning I had an appointment with the RE to begin IUI Cycle #1.  I received a call from my nurse this afternoon and she advised that the blood test revealed that my progesterone level was too low to begin; it was 4 and needs to be less than 2.  I'm supposed to return to the RE on Tuesday for another blood test.  Have you had a similar experience?

Re: Low Progesterone Level

  • Well the only thing I can think of is that they meant it was too low to show that you ovulated?

  • Your post is a little confusing.  You're saying your level is too low but its 2 points below what you're saying is normal.  If you had the P4 on Cycle Day 3, it should 1.5 or less.  Which I'm thinking you actually mean your progesterone was too high.  Unless you're saying your progesterone was 4 on the cycle day 7 days past ovulation?
  • Yes ... I meant my progesterone was too high.  I had a second blood test yesterday, which revealed that my progesterone level is still too high (2.3).  In short, I cannot begin the IUI cycle until my next menstrual cycle, which will require yet another blood test.

I also learned that there may be estrogen suppression, which according to what I've been reading on the internet may explain my frequent night sweats (another post for another day - but in a nutshell I wake up in the morning drenched).  My husband and I are going to schedule a consult with the RE so that we have a better understanding of what this all means.
