We talked about this yesterday. I think it will help a lot! But honestly there are many who won't follow this, even though it is safer, until it becomes law.

Yeah, someone posted this yesterday. I think it's awesome. Hopefully, the word will get out there. Especially with pedis, since they seem to have such an influence on people turning their babies FF at one year.

Yeah, I was just saying this on 6-12. It's a step in the right direction for sure. But yes, it will take it becoming law for a lot of people to listen.
Hopefully, though, it will help change a lot of pedis standard recommendations, which is what a LOT of people go by. A lot of people just don't know better and have never researched it. Their pedi tells them it's ok at their 1 year check and so they turn them around, kwim?
I didn't realize it was posted yesterday. Sorry girls!
Don't! Like you said a lot of people don't really look into this (I didn't) and I think the more we talk about it the more girls will see it and start wanting to learn for themselves!!!!!!!!!

I agree with the pp. If it weren't for the nest, we'd have turned right at one year because I wouldn't have had the additional knowledge that I now have. I can't think of a single friend IRL who did extended rear-facing so it's certainly not the norm here.

The nest is good like that. 4 years ago when DS was a baby, we were all about extended RFing on here too DS RFd until about 2 (I honestly don't remember exactly), even though his genius pedi at the time told me we could have turned him at 10 months b/c he was "big enough".
Oh, how I would love to take this to playgroup. I just about got glared out of the room when there was a conversation about which way to face a carseat last week. Apparently leg room is far more important than safety, according to the other mommies in my neighborhood.

Good. I really hope they get it on the books soon, though. This has become a bone of contention in my house, and nothing I say in defence of extended rear facing works, because "'the pediatrician says it's okay, and they know."
My ped and I discussed this when DS turned one and agreed on turning him at 15 months. I did that. As of yesterday, I have changed his seat back to rear-facing. It's not worth the risk and DS doesn't really care either way. Thankfully, DH never got around to switching the seat in his car since DS rarely goes in there so it didn't take much work.

Just curious - do pedis recommend based on questions, or "out of habit?" Nothing was mentioned by either of us at DD's checkup.
Ours happened because David outgrew his infant seat at about six/seven months, so we asked about getting a new one and she recommended a convertible and mentioned that although he was "big enough" we should wait until he turned one to turn it around.

Do it! I wish people WERE more informed.
Don't be silly about posting it.
And great minds think alike!!
