Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Daycare Moms - An Important PSA

According to LynninLove, the *real* reason daycare teachers have children try new things, do crafts, etc. is so that they can test them - to move them up to the next room and get more $$.

Just thought you should all know the true reason for all the coloring projects that come home with DC.

I don't think she was trying to imply it was the only reason for fun craft activities. I don't think she was even trying to imply that the daycare was an evil place just trying to push kids along to turn a huge profit. I think she's just trying to reassure another mom.

  • That is probably partially true, but they are also helping to develop their motor skills.  They probably have a checklist of things that they want them to do.   My DS is coloring with crayons and he is probably a few months away from moving in to the toddler room.
  • ^ Yes, I'm sure you are right. I'm also certain that she didn't mean to sound like a complete idiot.

but she did sound like one all the same.  I am a little snarky today.  I am working on my taxes.

  • Makes sense to me.  I remember the infant wait list in Las Vegas was ASTOUNDING but there wasn't as much competition for older spots.

I also think some of it is pressure parents put on centers. I remember being pregnant and everyone on the tri boards were talking about how important it is for you to have a constantly stimulating, early education promoting, day care... even for infants.  Seriously... coloring at 6 months Hmm  Harm just now is starting to like things like that and I don't think my son is dumb by any means!!!  I said it than and say it now (as Harmon tries to learn to open the tooth brush bottle w/his mouth and roll a dump truck) kids own discovery methods go much further than our manufactured ones.

I'm glad you can be so supportive of a mom trying to be reassuring to another mom. Y'know since there aren't plenty of real dimwits floating around these boards that deserve snarkiness.

  • More than her comment, I'm scratching my head about giving a 6 month old crayons.

  • luckily my kid is a finger painting genius.

Awesome!! I bet they've moved him up to 6th grade already.

  • i don't want to brag or anything but he's already finger painting at a high school levelGeeked
  • Um, this makes no sense to me.  The daycares around here move kids up according to age.  Crayon prodigies or not, they can't move up until they are old enough.
