I do and I love her!! I feel they are more personable and gentle than OB/GYN's. I had an OB with my first and having a CNM with this one, I'd prefer CNM's over OB's anyday.
I do & we totally gel! DH & I are both so happy with the care we're receiving from her! She's super down-to-earth, a great listener, gentle, encouraging, etc. She supports our lifestyle choices (e.g. striving for more green life, simplicity) and is a huge supporter of breastfeeding and natural alternatives.
I see 8 CNMs (whoever is on call that day is who I see). LOVE them. Very holistic care, very natural focused (i.e. "your body can do this"), very encouraging, very low-key (listen to the heart beat and check my BP but only do pee and bloodwork for necessary tests each trimester, not every visit), etc.
Yes, they do everything that a dr. does. There is always a midwife on call, just like a dr. With DD#1, I actually saw the dr's throughout my whole pregnancy, and it was a midwife who delivered her because there was no dr. around. I've been seeing the midwives this pregnancy starting from my first appointment.
I've been seeing a midwife since before my pregnancy. I love her! She doesn't do hospital births but there are midwives who are at hospital births. Some Dr.s have a midwife on staff that you can see and will be at your birth.
I do too! I absolutely love them. I had midwives with my first two as well. It is so much more personal then an OB. For example, my second baby, After his head and shoulders were out, my midwife rotated him to be face up and let me grab him under his arms and pull him the rest of the way out and up to my chest. It is a moment I'll never forget!! Also, earlier in the labor, he took my finger so I could feel his head so I knew how close I was getting. And then yesterday at my 32 week appointment, he pressed my fingers down into my stomach so I can feel my baby's head. I lovvvve midwives!
I've got 3 of 'em (they're in a shared practice). They deliver in the hospital, otherwise my insurance wouldn't cover them and I'd have to go with an OB. They have an MD for backup in case there's a need for a c-section.
I loooooove them. I barely wait 5 min for my appts, and then the appt itself lasts for as long as I want/need. I've never, ever, felt rushed and there is definitely more of a personal touch than with an OB. Honestly, I don't know why anyone would choose not to go with one unless they're high-risk!
oh yes and we totally love her. we are never rushed at our appointments and she will take the time to answer any questions we have. definitely happy we went that route.
