Need SD Hotel Recs (visiting SD...)

hi!

we'll be visiting your lovely city in may with DS for about 4 days

we've never been so i was wondering if you ladies could recommend your family friendly lodging (hotel, condo or resort).

i'm not sure what area is good to stay in? we'll probaby see a baseaball game, do some shopping, visit the beach and maybe go the zoo or the other animal park or sea world. DS will be 15 mos by may.

please leave your recs, i greatly appreciate it! if you have any other recs for activities with DS, that would be cool too! we love the outdoors.

  • I recommend staying downtown SD. ?We really like the Marriott Hotel and Marina, but there are many to choose from. ?Also Mission Valley/Hotel Circle has a lot of choices. ?Not a scenic place to stay, but it is near all the freeways (only 5 min. from the airport/downtown) and shopping. ?With a 15 month old I would avoid central Pacific Beach, Mission Beach or Ocean Beach. ?They are fun, but more a 20 something party crowd. ?North PB, La Jolla and Del Mar are more family oriented. ?Have a great vacation. ?Sounds like you are planning to do a lot.

  • I recommend Estancia - it's in La Jolla and it's beautiful.  We stayed there a year or so ago and it's actually what sealed our decision to move here.  We got a great deal and there were tons of families around.  The location puts you right near La JOlla Shores beach, Birch aquarium (cool little aquarium that's overlooked by many, IMO), and right near the 5 to take you downtown to the zoo, sea world, downtown SD, balboa park, etc.
  • I would highly recommend staying at Little Italy Inn.  It's a quaint little bed and breakfast type hotel in Little Italy (which is near downtown). My husband and I live in SD and stayed there last summer, just for a fun little weekend getaway.  We loved it.
  • There is a resort called Paradise Point in Mission Bay, it is not in the young kid part, it is almost like it is a little island, all the rooms are little bungalows, so there is privacy, it is in walking distance of sea world, 10 minutes form zoo, downtown and shopping.  They have 5 pools, put put golf etc... If you call or look online you can often find good deals.  It is like a little hawaii with the landscaping.  Very family oriented.... Downside is you have to pay to park :(
