My favourite is Sophia - but I like it spelled Sofia better. The "ph" makes it more greek than Italian. My DH is Italian too... if we have a girl I think we are going with Olivia or Nicolina (his nonna's name).

Gabriella or guiliana are great!. There are so many beautiful italian names out there, you can't go wrong. Sophia and Isabella are nice but they are so so so over used these days. I must know about a dozen Sophias (of all ages) and I know 5 isabellas under 7. Maybe it's just my area though.
I really like Giuliana. Most ppl will know how to pronounce it, she won't be one of 10 girls with the same name in her class, and it's just a beautiful name. I think Jules or Julia are nice nn's as well.
I love Gabriella! If our last name didn't begin w/ the same G sound, it would be on our list. I also love Gabby as a nn. I think it is not quite as common as Isabella and Sophia, which I like, but see so much.

aww nicolina is beautiful!
you're right about sofia~ it should be spelled sofia if italian based
i kinda liked the "ph" better myself~ however there are a ton of kids out there w/ it spelled this way and it may be nice to break free and spell it like sofia
I like them all, but I think I like Gabriella the best followed by Giuliana.

I never knew "ph" for Sophia wasn't Italian ... my grandmother (who is Italian .. daughter of Italian immigrants) is Sophia .. she's gone by Sophie pretty much her whole life but legally it's Sophia. So I wouldn't shy away from the "ph" spelling if it's the way you like it.
On the flip side, I own a large preschool center and I only have one Sofia right now but I have 2 children with younger sisters named Sofia. Fairly common.... I also have a Gabriella.
I love Nicolina ... very pretty!

I like all of them but Gabriella is my fav.
i love italian names! my favorite is francesca, but i also like:
gemma
liliana
margherita
agreed.
I also like Nicoletta as an Italian girl's name. I had a friend in elementary school with that name and always thought it was so pretty.?
I really like Giuliana, followed by Gabriella.
The other two are really overly popular right now.
