my baby is 6 days old and while we had some trouble with latch at first, i think both she and i are getting the hang of it now. the biggest problem we still have is the condition of my nipples. i think we did quite a bit of damage in the first couple of days when we were still learning, they are scabbed and bleeding and look pretty shredded, and it makes BF pretty painful even now that we are getting a decent latch. the pain does subside some during a feeding, but not completely. i spoke with a LC who recommended that we try nipple shields, but they actually seemed to make things worse. my nipples don't fill them out and my baby didn't seem able to take the whole silicone nipple into her mouth so she ended up just chomping on my nipple, which hurt like hell. so i guess my biggest question is how can i get my nipples to heal if i'm feeding all the time? the pain is really getting to me.
