I just signed up with Team In Training (Luekemia and Lymphoma Society) to run the San Antonio Marathon in November! ?I am so excited! ?This will be our second marathon (1st in 2005 in DC), but it's been a long time since I ran a long distance, like since before I was pregnant.
ANYWAY, somebody should join me! ?I swear to you I am not an elite athelete. ?I had not run more than a mile or two when I signed up for my first marathon. ?The training is excellent and you make a lot of great friends. ?My H and I are doing it together and it will be nice to have something to do with each other that doesn't revolve around K - not that I don't love the little guy, but you know what I mean. ?There is a fundraising minimum you have to meet, but they help you out and it's not as hard as it may seem.
The kickoff is April 26th. ?Will anybody join???

Re: Running a marathon!! Join me!
I am so very tempted, but I'm having a hard time getting on the dang treadmill we bought. Maybe this is the thing that will kick my butt to get started though. Hm. Let me think about it and I'll let you know, k?
What are you running right now? I'm pretty much starting from a standstill, and I don't want to slow anyone down. Is there an option to do the half?
I ran a 5k at Thanksgiving and it kicked my ass. I haven't run more than a mile since. ?Don't worry about slowing people down! ?There will be a lot of people at different paces. ?The training is for people of all levels. ?We will be training in Dallas at White Rock on Sat. mornings, but I know there is also a training in McKinney, which may be closer to you. ?
Yes, there is a half marathon or you could opt to walk the marathon. ?When Scott and I first decided to do the Marine Corps marathon in 2005 we went in with the intention of doing only a half, but after we saw all the people who were signing up for the full (older, more out of shape) our competitive ?side got the best of us ; ) ?You can do it! ?You never know until you try.
I have to say that running the marathon and giving birth to K are the two most empowering experiences of my life.?
I really want to...I need something to get me moving! I keep thinking about running but I have not done it.
I don't know if I could do a full marathon though.
This is tempting...
Ladies, I'm telling you, if I can do it, so can you. ?I was the girl who dropped out of Cross Country 1 mile into my first race in HS. ?Is it easy? ?Hell no. ?Is it an awesome life experience. ?Absolutely. ??
If you all want to do it through Team In Training, here is a list of the upcoming information meetings. ?If you sign up at the meeting, it's only a $50 registration fee vs. $100, which goes toward your fundraising requirement. ?The SA marathon has a $2,900 fundraising requirement, but keep in mind you have over six months to raise that.

My knees bother me when I run. How is that for a wimp out??
I am so impressed that you are doing it though!
The last one I ran was the Jingle Bell Run which was just a 5k... it kicked my butt and I had to walk some of it but there was no training.
So, how often do you meet to train? I know my dh would LOVE to do it but I just don't see how we would find the time to run so often with 2 kids.
If it was only once/week, I would totally do it. I just don't think it's possible to only train once/week and be able to run a marathon.
I think you may run with a group once a week, and other than that you train on your own.
