Baby Food ?

I tried to make my own green beans tonight. ?I bought frozen organic from Kroger. ?I steamed them in the bag according to the directions, added water then pureed with my immersion blender. ?I can't seem to get them smooth. ?Any tips?

Re: Baby Food ?

  • I think I only made them once b/c Ava hated them (actually she loves them now, but never took to green beans until she could just eat regular ones like we eat)--but I believe I read to put the puree through a strainer?  I don't remember what I did, but I never quite got mine smooth either.

  • I cooked mine on the long end of the suggested times and did them in the regular blender and they were smooth. Maybe you need more water?

  • I did the same as copswife.  I steamed them for about a minute longer than the time limit so they'd be a little mushier.  Then I pureed them in my blender.  They came out smoothe.  I've only made them once.  I still have cubes in my freezer... B didn't like them so much.  But he LOVED peas. And avocado.  Go figure.
  • Definitely oversteam all of the veggies you make.  I usually add two minutes to the time to get them borderline mushy.  Also, I saw a tip online to let the veggie cool completely before putting them in the blender (especially peas) to make them easy to puree.  It works very well.  A little texture is not always a bad thing.  She might like them pureed more coarsely.

ETA:  You might try a regular blender if you cant get the immersion blender to puree them enough.  I use the chop function on high and then set it to puree.
