Bad reaction to wedding ring

Last week, the whole area under my wedding ring got super red, irritated and became an open sore (I have an irritated, red ring around the finger). It's still bad (and I've had my ring off for over a week). Anyone else have this happen? Any suggestions to help it or am I doomed to wear my ring on a chain around my neck for the next 6 months?

Re: Bad reaction to wedding ring

  • Is it white gold? If so, the Rhodium plating might have worn off. If you get it re-done it might help.

  • Do you wash your hands a lot wearing your wedding rings or take a shower w/ them on? I did this all the time and I got the same thing you are talking about. The water would just set up in my rings and irriate my skin. I went and got them cleaned and it helped out ..I havent had the rash since.
  • What kind of metal is it?  Have you had a reaction to that type of metal previously?

  • my MIL had this happen and it was a chemical burn from waterless hand sanitizer gel getting stuck between her ring and finger...
  • It's platinum, and no, I've never had any reaction in over 5 years (not even with my first pg). I usually do wear it 24/7 and keep it on when I wash my hands, etc. It's never been a problem before, so I didn't really think about it. Does anyone know if you can get the inside of platinum coated with something?

  • Perhaps; I had to take mine off last week. I feel so naked.
  • I have had the same issue since the beginning of my pg (and a previous one)- itching, redness, and sores after a while. I have white gold though and I tend to just not wear the ring on the weekends. Like you I've worn the ring for years with no allergic reaction. Some days are worse than others, I hate not wearing it. I am sure another ring would cause the same reaction unfortunately. I try to dry under the ring but this doesn't seem to make a difference.?
